Visa for my mother.

Featured Replies

Hi, my mum is in Australia and want to come to Thailand in February. She has 2 Thai national grandchildren (my 2 kids). What visa should she apply for to let her get in?

Thanks

How long does she want to visit for?

Around 6 months or more.

@ubonjoe Does the Non-O (family visit) work for grandparents? Can't remember having read it being raised.

If not, STV would get her up to 9 months without having to leave with the most certainty in these uncertain times I would think.

At this time it does not appear that she could apply for and enter the country using a non-o visa.

This from the visa page on the embassy website. https://canberra.thaiembassy.org/non-immigrant/

It is also is not shown on the certificate of entry website. https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

She could get a total stay of about 9 months with a special tourist visa. That allows a 90 day entry that can be extended for twice for 90 days.

Ifshe can get out Australia might need be long time. Agree with 2022 comment.

As @ubonjoe writes, it does not appear that your mother can qualify for a COE based on her family relationship. Historically, some embassies/consulates would probably have granted a Non O visa, but that does not help at the current time. The STV seems the best option unless so wealthy that she would consider applying for a Thailand Elite membership.
