Pattaya: Bar patrons try to flee as authorities ensure Covid early closing - owner arrested

Siam Chon News reported on Facebook that the Bang Lamung municipal authorities were out in force at 2 am this morning in Pattaya checking that strict midnight closing was being observed.

District chief Amnat Charoensri sent in Pornchai Sang-iat to Walking Street, Sai 3 and Soi Bua Khao.

Though most bars had shut up for the night some had not. Warnings were issued and patrons were told to go home immediately and not to set up alcohol drinking parties.

But at three bars together under the same ownership the authorities decided to act.

These were the Minny Coffee and Bar, a place by a similar name called Mini and one called Thiam Khwan.

Here there were many Thais and foreigners drinking. When they saw the authorities some tried to flee the scene but were rounded up and reminded of the rules as they now stand - stricter than before due to the latest outbreaks in Thailand and in Chonburi.

The bars were all shut down and their owner was taken away to city hall and charged with operating without a licence, serving alcohol out of hours and flouting Covid-19 rules.

He was then handed over to the Pattaya police.

like herding cats.

BREAKING: The Governor of Chonburi has signed this order for Bang Lamung District including Pattaya. It includes closures of shopping malls, swimming pools, parks, fitness centers and health spas. Restaurants can open but takeaway only. Convenience stores must close 10pm-5am.

Wait until 2am, give 'em a couple of hours "incubation" time !

The emergency decree alone does not allow operating times and selling of alcohol after midnight. In reality many bars were open even after the legal opening times that were valid before Corona. I am not talking about a secret here since it could not be overlooked. I am talking about open air bars.

Only reason I can see for being out that late and still drinking is waiting for a prettier shift to come on as the buffalos left don't take your fancy.

I find it hard to believe that another 3 bars are stupid enough not to at least have a vaild licence

& harder to believe that the licence is obviously not checked many times a year at an establishment selling & (or)

serving alcohol

Richard you know that is not true.  All the girls get prettier at closing time problem is that there was no closing time ????

You can't have your liquor license revoked if you don't have one.   ????

I can't understand why they would flee the scene and not want to stick around for the lecture. ????

It's okay, with their selfishness they've now screwed everyone.

No bars will be open soon.

I was at this bar area last night. My usual bar obeyed the 12:00pm closure so went here at just before 1am. Pretty relaxed outside bar area in Chaloem Phra Kiat Soi 11 (by 3rd road and Pattaya Klang). Never been before and it was probably 50/50 Thais and foreigners chatting and playing pool. There were 3 bars in the complex and no music at that hour. About 01:45am a police "scout" came by and took some pictures/video of the bar/cashier areas. We decided to pay the bin shortly after. Just as we were getting on the bike a police pick-up truck pulled up outside and cops jumped off mob handed and went into the complex. Needless to say, we didn't hang around. Word is that the staff and cashiers from the bars were arrested and still in custody this afternoon. Apparently a pay-off was not possible on this occasion. No surprise today that Pattaya is in lockdown.

Was there continuing a lady's birthday party celebrations. Pretty chilled place (until the cops arrived).

Yeah they usually arrest the manager and then they call the owner to come ‘bail’ them out ! $$$

Luckily I am back in Isaan after my Christmas trip to Pattaya and have escaped the latest lockdown but for how long, remains to be seen.

If you are in a rural area I think that will be fine..... no congregating at bars, boxing stadia, discos or cock-fighting rings and you should be fine to sit it out.
