Yes, I'm subjective. I've heard 10,000's of R&R and R&B recordings, been in dozens of bar bands, recorded karaoke tracks before westerners knew the work karaoke, written hundreds of songs .....but I just got to say, LOS LOBOS takes the cake for me.

They're 5 guys who have been gigging together since their high school days, decades ago. They're from East Los Angeles, which is mostly Chicano (immigrant families from Mexico) so half their songs are in Spanish - and there's a lot of Latino influence. As much as anything else, I like their verve. In a state like California, most men are trying mightily to become accommodating to women, so many of the guys demure to becoming more effeminate - because assertive women prefer wimpy guys (unless the women are threatened or their car breaks down on a dark rainy night, then they want a macho man to grab the bull by the horns). Los Lobos refreshing buck to the trend - in that they're not afraid to let their masculanity come through in their music. Most of all they're just primo rock and rollers.

when most people think of los lobos, obviously they think of La Bamba (an outstanding song); what other tunes did they have that people would recognize?

Put me down for a penchant to the Lobos. I saw them in concert up in that casino by where Michael Jackson keeps his monkey. In California, north of Santa Barbara. I forget the casino, but, remember that strange monkey bit.

Good dudes. I have a few CDs cause I like the band's verve too. As I am of Mexican descent, I can't refuse sounds like that.

One of the cool things to do if you have a long taxi drive and maybe you are towing a thai passenger in the taxi as well. Bring a few CDs and see how the thais respond to the music.

Los Lobos are good for it.

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is a Thai mindbender. They like the heavy violin action.

Country - For what ever reason, they like it.

Dance Compilations - Ok, get a sixer and enjoy the ride. Just don't look how the driver is driving.

While I would hardly classify Los Lobos as a rock and roll band, they are not recognized in the world for to much other than La Bumba which is not one of their songs but an old Mexican wedding song. If it is Spanish "rock and roll" you looking at and want to classify it as "worlds greatest" I think you have to go with someone like Carlos Santana. To be honest with you other than La Bumba I'm not sure I have heard anything by Los Lobos and I am from a very Spanish part of the USA, so Spanish that if you don't speak Spanish your hard pressed for work blue and white collar.

Motorhead improved after spending some time in america.

Los Lobos did a lot of the music on the movie "La Bamba" Pretty good. My aunt was married to Ritchie Valens' brother Bob. Her name is Rosie...she's portrayed in the movie.

rush were allright up until the point they started played all that synth music and ended up sounding like the police.

a band where each member was/is a virtuoso, the mighty cream, listen to the riff on crossroads, awesome.

will admit seeing the who live, an experience, the raw energy was something else, pity they never really captured it in the studio, whos next was probably the closest.

one band not yet mentioned, thin lizzy, live and dangerous, one of the best live albums released, and always a good concert.

got to say, bon era, ac-dc, was pretty special.

as for live bands, i never saw queen play a bad concert, pure showmanship, again i would rather see them live than listen to an album, no comparison.

for pure visual spectacle, no one comes close to pink floyd, although it was pretty much like the albums played live, would have loved them to jam a bit more.

for pure allround no nonsense shows, no back drops or needless props, and a hel_l of a great modest guy, the late great rory gallgher, listen to the boot, proving he is better than clapton, if you cant find that, then buy the bbc sessions vol 1.

70s era van morrison concerts were almost unmissable as well, old age has caught up with him now though.

always liked genesis, up until wind and wuthering, after that they degenerated into phil collins backing group, although knebworth 78 still brings back happy memories.

still listening to the allmans after all these years, also warren haynes side project, govt mule, another excellent jam band.

jeez, will need to stop now could go on all day, must go and dig out the zepp bootlegs, plays pure blues, will be blasting out shortly, open a cold one and kick back.
