astral
I do contract work in the IT field and every so often I get asked to go to India. The Indian Embassy here will only give me a 6 month visa, not a longer validity one as I do not have a work permit here. I live here with my Thai wife and travel abroad when business requires it. I purposely do not have clients in Thailand. Can anyone suggest a way of convincing the Indians that I do live here? Otherwise I shall have to send my passport to the UK for the visa, next time. It is a pain going to Bangkok twice, everytime I need a new visa. Thanks

Thanks Get a statement from either your own Embassy, or from Thai Immigration certifying where you actually do live. The Indian Embassy should accept that. ovenman
Can anyone suggest a way of convincing the Indians that I do live here? I have a ten-year, multi-entry visa for India. I was unable to obtain this visa abroad (i.e. outside the US) and needed to apply for it one time when I was visiting the States. I got the impression from the Indian consular staff with whom I spoke, both at the consulate in Chiang Mai and at the high commission in Singapore, that the only foreign applicants they would entertain for long-term visas were official residents of the country from where they were applying (work permit, permanent resident, etc.).
