Popular Post madmitch
I'm sure this will appear in the news pages soon but last night, New Year's Day at around 00:50, a large leatherback turtle made its way onto Kata beach and laid a clutch of eggs. It was there apparently for about four hours. The area has been cordoned off to protect the eggs but I reckon they'll be taken to the marine centre in Cape Panwa for hatching. One possible positive on the lack of tourists yet the turtle probably chose the busiest night of the year on the beach; possibly lucky in that on a normal night no one would have seen it. I have seen some footage online. Unfortunately I drove past the beach about twenty minutes earlier, just to look how busy it was; not that I'd have seen anything I'm sure. But an amazing start to 2021 with some welcome good news.
