Does anyone know a good place for dvds in Pattaya?

I realise they sell them on the street but I mean somewhere you can sit down, go through them all, they'll tell you if they're 100% quality or not, if no good you can bring them back.

I know a great place in Bangkok in the back of a suitcase shop where they do just that, saves a lot of time.

I recently discovered 'Time' on the 4th floor at Tuk Com, Pattaya Tai.

I find it excellent - they have all the very latest movies, loads of TV series, rock concerts, classics, and God knows what else. You can try them out there, or, if you buy a dud, they will change it without argument.

They charge a little more than the suitcase merchants in the bars, but they all come in proper boxes - the quality is good, and as i said, you can take them back.

Coincidentally, today I was there to stock up at 3 p.m, and the shop, together with all the other software and DVD shops on the 4th floor were locked and bolted, with the staff sitting around outside twiddling their thumbs. However, as soon as they saw "Power Buyer Mobi", they rushed to unlock the door, and give me a personal viewing, assuring me that they would take care of me in the event of any 'untoward' incidents (Like a police raid?)

Within minutes, the place was swarming with farang customers, who seemed to come out of the woodwork

They had been obviously lurking in the shadows, awaiting for Mobi to appear and convince Time to raise their portals. :D

Happy DVD hunting. :o

I use 'Time' as well in Tuk Com. I don't really like buying copies if I actually 'want' the movie for my collection, but I treat them as a disposable treat and then pass them on to friends, or do 'swaps'.

Downstairs on the ground floor there is a good DVD shop called Scorpion which sells originals for as low as 100 baht. IMHO this is where I prefer to shop. I have picked up some real bargains there: Big name movies, admitedly released a few years ago.....but original.

I've bought a few movies from the shop on the bottom floor (never looked at the name, but it's on the right-side, more or less in the middle of the main floor next to the escalator if you come into TukCom from South Pattaya Road). Pricier than the vendors of course, not a bad selection.

For newer movies though, I go to a shop at the soi Bukhao market (if you turn onto soi Bukhao from South Pattaya Road, it's at the back end of the left side of the market. There is a large moto parking area just past where you would enter to get to the shop. Inside that area are a few brick shops, the first one sells a pretty good selection of movies (Thai and English), good prices, and they guarantee them (for what that's worth). I've never had to try and exchange a movie I've got from them though.

I get a laugh out of people buying movies from the "bazaar" here in the 'stan. Most are pirated copies made in Pakistan, and the newer releases are usually crappy, filmed in the theatre with a hand-held camera type knock-offs. If you bring a crappy movie back the the vendor you bought it from, he will toss it into a box under the table and let you pick a different one. Then later on, he will pull the crap one out of the box and put it back in with the rest of the "good" copies, figuring maybe the next sucker will buy it and not bother trying to exchange it. :o

Many DVDs sold here have 3, 4 5 or more movies crammed onto a single disk (one I have that works well has all of Bruce Lee's movies on the one disk). To get that all onto one disk they simply drop all the "extra" features and in many cases, the files needed to change your set-up options (meaning you can't select/unselect things like subtitles, language options, audio options and so on).

They also sell them "by the disk". So a movie may cost 2.00 US. A PC Game $1.00, but if it has 2 disks, it is $2.00. A collection (like Family Guy Season One or The X-Files) would be a dollar per disk as well.

Some of the software disks could have 100+ programs on them (many, many utility programs) with key generators or cracked keys included.

Pakistan may be a US ally in the war on terror, but they sure aren't doing (US) Big Business any favours !! :D
