NLA approve laws to prosecute web porno

The National Legislative Assembly has passed laws to prosecute websites containing obscene or pornographic images.

Minister of Culture Khunying Khaisri Sri-arun (ไขศรี ศรีอรุณ), in her capacity as Chairperson of the Safe and Creative Media Committee, said that the National Legislative Assembly has approved legislature involving computer regulations to prosecute violators for broadcasting obscene or pornographic images and videos via websites or cellular phone services.

The Information and Communications Technology Ministry agrees with the measures and believes that they will greatly restrict the proliferation of obscene and pornographic material, which are immoral and damage the nation's culture.

The ICT Ministry will be cooperating closely with the Culture Ministry in monitoring for obscene content via media channels.

Porno sites hosted in Thailand? Hello, webhosting elsewhere is incredibly easy and stupid cheap right now, why bother with loading anything at all on a server in Thailand? This is simply a 20 minute work around here people.

Closing the barn door after the horse is gone...way gone, so far gone in fact, he's been forgotten and assumed dead... same as the brainpower of these NLA thinktank geniuses. Anybody with objectionable material on a Thai server these days is just as brilliant as they are.

Myanmar = Thailand = Myanmar... almost here.

I would prefer : "Porn : mission accomplished". :o

Of course, a tight white uniform for Sonthi would be de rigueur (compulsory).

:D

But more seriously, is it the Cyber Crime Law, or another text specific to porn on Internet ?

Presumably they can only "prosecute" Thai based poronography web-sites ? Which cannot

be great in number.

I assume this is in the context of the Minister's function of blocking web-sites.

Just for fun I did a google search on "sex movie" and it reurned 82 million hits.

Now given the fact that these zealots can count on the Minister's attention during

30 minutes a day (elapsed time between the end of a hearty lunch after his morning

18 holes and his afternoon nap) and given that said Minister might sign 6 banning

orders on a good day Thailand will be internet porn free in 37 thousand years.

And not before time !

I must confess I have lusted in my heart ... er ... I have visited a porn website. In fact it was the web-site of this famous restaurant at the corner, called "Mae Porn" and I found really obscene pictures of people engaged in public ... what? ... talks about their last night. Shocking!

But seriously, what exactly is so bad about porn? I am not talking about child abuse and stuff like this, just plain, hot sex between consenting adults? As long as there is sufficient protection against involuntary access by minors, I see no harm to anybody in porn.

I know, the Pope called for resisting the temptation, but he is not my Pope so I don't care. As someone said once, the best thing about temptation is to give in.

Sex workers of the world, unite!

Cyber porno more popular during the past three months among adolescents

An academic of the Mahidol University and member the Committee for Safe and Constructive Media indicates that sexually-explicit content in the Internet has gained more popularity among Thai adolescents during the past three months.

The Mahidol University’s academic, Itthiphol Preetiprasong (อิทธิพล ปรีติประสงค์) says the situation of cyber pornography in Thailand is in crisis due to the popularity of sexually-explict conversations and actions found in many ten thousands of websites. In addition, Mr Itthiphol says he was reported of an astonishing fact that most customers of obscene audio-text businesses are children and adolescents.

Mr Itthiphol adds that nowadays the majority of media content via television contains inappropriate relationships between men and women, aggressive behaviors, rude words, and materialism. Moreover, he blames printed media, including women’s magazines, which publish photographs of actresses wearing inappropriate dress, of being responsible for present social problems.

Just a load of hypocritical old dinosaurs running in circles trying to prevent the inevitable. Despite all the recent bluster, and invention of Orwellian-titled "Ministries" trying to homogenize truth, culture, thinking, etc; to try and keep Thai people in the dark regarding information, the thread is unraveling, and a lot of the lies and deceptions that shape Thai society are starting to look less cohesive.

These recent "cyber-laws" just show how worried the elite really are.... :o
