Re-entry permit

Featured Replies

How long does it take to get re-entry permit at IO and at airport?

Are there any documents i must take or only passport?

Thank you.

Takes 5 minute. TM8 form you can download and fill in prior to going to airport.

1000baht single 3800 multiple.

It requires a picture passport size.

Swampy previously did the form for you for a service fee 200baht.

It's expiry will be same as your current permission of stay on stamp in your passport. You can use it anytime

It is valid for re-entry up until the last day of your permission to stay. You can leave any time before so long as you arrive back in Thailand before that date.

A re-entry permit is valid to the day the permit to stay it was issued for ends.

Understood - thank you guys.

Has anyone gotten a re-entry permit at SBIA/BKK recently?

Yes, but I am pretty certain you need to get this at the Immigration Office which issued your ext stay.

The re-entry permit at the airport is only available to same-day departing travelers with an international ticket.

At least that's what's been posted here extensively.

Correct. To put a sharper edge to it, you need a boarding pass.

The reentry permit at swampy is just after security and prior to passport control. At DMK it's after passport control so in both cases you would be departing.

A Re-Entry Permit can be bought anytime in the period before permission to stay expiry, and will protect that permission to stay, so will stay valid until used during the full period.

Most people buy such a Re-Entry Permit when they are at their Imm Office and receive their 1-year permission to stay, so that they do not need to come back later for it when needed.

Three caveats:

1 - In the current climate with border-restrictions, a Multiple-Entry Re-Entry Permit (3.800 THB) will not be worth the cost, as it is only beneficial when doing 4 or more exit/entries on your current permission to stay.  A Single-Entry Re-Entry Permit (1.000 THB) would currently be the better and more economical choice.

2 - There are scenario's possible in which a Re-Entry Permit is more of a burden than an advantage, as the Re-Entry Permit might lead to border-immigration using that option when it would be better for you entering VisaExempt or on a 60-day Tourist Visa (e.g. because of mandatory insurance requirements).

3 - When planning to do a land-border exit/entry during your 1-year permission to stay, you would need to get the Re-Entry Permit at your local IO (ideally - if you know it already - to do this when receiving your 1-year permission to stay).

When flying out of the country, it is recommended to buy the Re-Entry Permit at a major Thai International Airport from where you are leaving (e.g. BKK or DMK), as that would leave your options open whether you need it < see #2 >
