webfact
Mother appeals for justice for her child who died waiting for a doctor A single mother has appealed for justice for her one-year old son, who died at a hospital in Tha Yang district of Phetchaburi province, after allegedly waiting about five hours for a doctor to tend to him. 33-year old Sitthiya Arunrote told the media, at her son Akakrawin’s funeral at Wat Nong Chok in Tha Yang district, that she had rushed him to the hospital at about midnight on February 12th, after he had developed a high fever and suffered seizures. Upon arrival at the hospital, a nurse administered an intravenous injection through a leg of the boy, believing that he might be suffering from a lung infection, she said. After having waited for a few hours for a doctor, she realized the condition of her son had not improved and urged the nurse to have him transferred to the provincial hospital, but to no avail as the nurse insisted that she and her son had to wait for the doctor’s arrival. Very worrying, administered a drip for something she "believed" to be a lung infection? If a doctor was not available they should have sent the boy straight to another hospital for a real diagnosis. 2

Khun Paul
Sue the nurse for attempting to be a doctor , then the Local medical Authority for NOT ensuring doctors available. RIP young feller, your loss due to incompetence and Thainess. /jobsworth
Cake Monster
What a very Sad story. An all too often recurring kind of story in Thailand, where Childrens lives are so little thought of. Sleep with the Angels little lad.
cardinalblue
Poor decision making by medical staff...the question becomes whether there is really proper case investigation protocol in place so it reduces probability of happening again?

Problem here is that Thailand has about 500,000 to 600,000 dead each year of all reasons, I have seen absolutely no date on these 600,000 being tested after death. Just straight to the temple. If they had tested them, then it makes the pathetic living testing look even worse.
xtrnuno41
Well nurse was at least good thinking and probably allowed to put in a hydration fluid. Such a young baby with fever does need fluid immediately, guess she checked that and was/could able to do. As a dehydrated kid gives again lots of other problems So far good. However not letting the doctor know it is an emergency, wrong, mis judgement, sad. Or was doctor on other emergency? Too bad having not much doctors. Nurse insisted on waiting, that's WRONG. Mis judgement and mom should have gone to other hospital after just 1 hour or less. Typical case of failures and not knowing how to handle. Even mom doubted, but should have taken any car to go to city hospital. Sad , real sad.
