Transit Flights Are Now Being Allowed

BANGKOK (NNT) - Transit flights are now being allowed through Suvarnabhumi airport, but travelers would be confined to a specific area at the airport terminal, and not be allowed to visit shops there.

 

Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin said travelers would have to show fit-to-fly and Covid-free certificates, as well as health insurance documents.

 

Transit passengers would not have to go through Covid-19 screening. They would be required to wear face masks, sanitize their hands and observe social distancing while waiting for connecting flights. Their stay at the airport would be limited at 12 hours.

By the time I've spent $500 on my covid test, separate fit-to-fly document and special Thai covid insurance, I think I might choose to transit somewhere else ...

Never ending list of obstacles and gouging opportunism from a clueless regime and that's just on leaving  ???? 

I do not understand why posters are again knocking Thailand on this subject.

The requirements are "normal" & actually less than NZ, Aust, Malaysia, Singapore & now the UK

Pray tell, what would you suggest ?

Given the choice between transiting through the Middle East to Europe, or Japan/South Korea to N America, none of which require additional insurance - and BKK, it would make sense not to transit in the latter.

I understand the preflight test, that's a pretty standard requirement right now.

 

What I don't understand is the health insurance requirement for airside transit of no more than 12 hours. Obviously a traveler should have insurance, but to get the right kind (approved by Thailand) of coverage just for a few hours of transit seems over the top.

Singapore, Malaysia - no PCR test, fit-to-fly or insurance required for transit.

Australia & New Zealand - have you ever seen a map? I don't think many people plan an international flight that goes via Australia ...

Not sure how many options there are right now? Nor If I would choose BKK as a transit point right now. Seems risky. Maybe if staying with the same airline/aircraft, is BR still flying TPE-BKK-LHR? I thin other airlines fly through BKK, AF/KL for example, but I haven't stayed up on those fliights.

 

I guess if TG had a ful schedule this would be a thing?

EK have DXB-BKK-HKG and those transitting BKK don't even get off the aircraft.
