shoulder/arm/ pain - follow up...

x-rays show nothing - Dr. prescribed PT and traction as it appeared there might be a pinched nerve in my neck. - went 2x and no particular progress..

I did go for acupuncture at famous CM clinic and today seems a bit better.. go 2x next week...

**** When inserting pins there was one painful spot half way between my neck and shoulder blade and I assume the problem is centered there.. touching that spot it is a bit sore and prompts immediate numbness..

Not sure what might be pinching the nerve or if it is a pinched or damaged nerve... ??

Anyone ever had something like this? I am hopeful that acupuncutre will produce a cure, but how long? Any advice welcome...

I am dropping the traction [PT] at hospital and just going forward w/Acu...

I had a similar problem years ago back in the UK.

Doctors were a waste of time, but I managed to get back most  mobility without pain after a long course of Acupuncture.

I still have some slight pain, but compared to the pain and lack of mobility in my Arm I have to say it worked for me.

Before the Acupuncture, I was unable to raise my extended Left Arm any more than Horizontal, but I now have almost complete mobility of my Arm and Shoulder

That sounds like Capsulitis aka frozen shoulder. I had it about 4 years ago. Physiotherapy is only as good as the actual therapist. I found a good physio in Pattaya and had 5 or 6 sessions and was given a variety of exercises. It cleared up permanently.  www.physiotherapistpattaya.com. Worth trying if it comes back or you get a problem with your other shoulder. Travelling up South Pattaya road away from the beach, turn right into 3rd road (Tonys gym would be on your left)and its about 60 metres down on the left.

Frozen shoulder sounds like movement issues which I don't have... it seems directly related to a nerve which when the arm is positioned in a manner will send pulsing numbness/tingles down to my fingers...

I had a similar issue. I fixed it. But it's difficult to explain to someone else how to fix it.

It's like your body is not working in unison and so it's pulling against itself, causing you pain. Your body is telling you that there is an issue and you need to do something about it. In other words you need to learn how to relax your body and allow it to fix itself.

Relaxing and allowing yourself free movement supported by water is a good place to begin.  You need to loosen up in order to regain flexibility and fluidity. Only through this free movement will you be able undo the tension. You need to relax your mind in order to allow it to happen.

The human mind and body is amazing. Most people don't even touch on their capabilities because they just get stuck in a rut of doing things a certain way.

Look at it another way. Imagine you cut your foot. You then adjust your gait to avoid the pain of stepping on the cut. This puts a strain on other parts of the body in a way that is not normal. Eventually something gives.

So you need to rebalance; to get everything working together in unison.  At the moment you are out of whack.  Issues with your posture and gait. So you are putting undue stress on part of your body which in turn affects the rest.

Most people prefer quick solutions, as opposed to taking the time to get to the root of their issues.

I think I have been deemed whacky before, but in a good way, not quite so painful...

I did go for acupuncture and it was interesting... one pin really hit the spot... I wake up in less pain so, I am thinking rest is good... I will go have a float now... did so yesterday as well...

No. But thanks anyway..

Hoping acupuncture and rest will do it...

Maybe that will do.

I have very good experience with a chiropractor and what sees to me similar problems to what you have. If this is a problem for a chiropractor and he does it right then most of your problems are gone in 30 minutes. So maybe it's a good idea to think about that option.

I found on google: Sensory Nerve issues.. I have all the symptoms..

tingling

pain

sensitivity

numbness

positional awareness problems

Where is your chiropracter? I would try anything... have 2 more acupuncture appts tomorrow..

I did go to a chiro once in USA, it was just a money grab...

Would a cat scan or MRI have any benefit?

I would love to recommend Dr. Don. Unfortunately he died a few years ago - as far as I know he had a penicillin allergy. Sad story.

This is the clinic which Dr. Don opened:

Bioenergyasia

Just in general. I am no specialist, just a patient who used the service of Dr. Don a couple of times. I found it amazing how well just one treatment worked. And I have a couple of friends who also had very good experience with Dr. Don.

But, there is always a but... As far as I heard some chiropractors don't seem to know their limitations. And it seems if they do it wrong then your problem won't go away - best case.

Summary: I recommend that you look for a chiropractor. But better make sure you find one with a good reputation. Personally I only visited Dr. Don and his clinic and I don't know any other chiropractor. Good luck!

Then I will just have to wait a bit longer...

I lived in NYC many years ago and remember a friend talking about an amazing chiro... but I think they are few and far between...

The acupuncture clinic in CM has a good reputation... I am hopeful.

An MRI of the cervical spine would be the next step along with consulting a spinal specialist but no need to do either if it clears up with the acupuncture.

Thanks Sheryl - I had my first breakthrough after my 3rd acupuncture session... it still gets numb depending upon position and i can't quite sleep on my side yet... but the pain decreased noticeably after that third session which included "cupping" - the application of suction cups for 10 minutes...

The pain is probably reduced 70-80% now and the jostling of driving the car does not help.. the numbness is still there bt that is slight discomfort and not really pain.. it ocmes depending upon the angle of position of the arm..

also, heat from a heating pad has helped too...

so, for the first time in a month I am hopeful..

thanks for the follow up..
