Wearing Costumes In Pattaya?

Featured Replies

Serious question for you. My friend and I are travelling to Pattaya in July from the Uk for the first time. We were thinking of buying some fancy dress costumes and spending one night dressing up in skimpy angel & devil outfits in Boyz Town. However i've read soooo many different things about dress code. Would this sort of skimpy costume be acceptable to wear in Pattaya on a night out? :D

We don't want to insult anyone. Or be percieved as being disrespectful. In the UK it would be seen as some light-hearted fun. We're travelling to Pattaya to celebrate my 21st birthday & we thought it would be a fun idea.

Please let me know! :o

My approach would be to book your hotel in Boyz Town, ie, Cafe Royal or Ambiance and then wear your costumes in their cabarets, across the street from each other. Certainly during festival days like Halloween or Gay Pride much wider travel in costume would be ok, in my view.

Recently we had a similar question in the Gay Forum about wearing drag clothes in Pattaya, and we transferred it to the Pattaya Forum. I'll do the same this time; thanks for the question.

Paul I asked about dressing up as a lass a week or 2 ago, think it finally ended up in the Farang Pub after a select few didnt like me asking the question or couldnt understand me dressing up as a girl for a laugh.. Go for it, theres very little that will be frowned upon IMO, obviously respect the Thais and their King and Kingdom but you should know that.

A few people asked me 'why?', so I asked back 'why not?'

The way I see it theres a million and one worse things going on in Pattaya (which may well offend you but you just gotta bite your tongue), so a couple of lads enjoying themselves shouldnt cause a stir I'll let you know as I'm off out there in 2 weeks with a dress and long blonde wig :o

I definately recommend Jenny Star Bar on Walking Street if you're in fancy dress they'll love it

Seen a couple of blokes dressed up on different ocassions, though they were in the "I lost the bet and had to dress in drag for the night" category. Everyone around (girls & guys) took it in good cheer.

Like almost everything these days though, you got to chose your time and place, and be prepared. Not everyone will be as accepting as most of the locals will be (I'm thinking of the usual lager-lout types looking for an excuse to stir up <deleted>).

Other than that, do a good job dressing up and maybe you make some of the girls/boys/undecideds/in-betweens jealous (and maybe even get some job offers !).

I was thinking exactly the same Kerryd, Paul try and avoid your stereotypical Brit on holiday, tattoo'd up to the hilt shouting and swearing (the sort you'd avoid over here as well) and you'll be fine.. Boyztown and the ladyboy bars I reckon will lap you up (not literally, well thats up to you :o )

Good Luck & have a good one!

Thanks guys! Made me feel a wee bit better! Certainly not one of those sterotypical loud Brits. However im stayin in what looks like a very contemporary hotel, soooo i mite need a few drinks before i go out.hehe

But it's all in the aspect of a good night out. Thank u!

Do lager-lout types frequent gay bars in Pattaya? :o

Interesting.

I would think that gay bars would be seas of tranquilty compared to straight ones. :o

I mentioned that in the event they decided to stroll down Walking Street enroute to Jenny's or Linda's.

I'm sure most self-respecting louts wouldn't go near a gay bar, especially alone. But when they get in groups and decide they want to stir up <deleted>, you never know where you'll find them.

(I compare the "stereo-typical" lager-lout to a lot of the young soldiers I used to serve with. Exchange Football for Hockey, and maybe fewer tattoos, and I've found a lot of our new soldiers act in a similar manner. Funny how different their attitude is when they are alone though).
