The head of Thailand's tech police or PCT and deputy RTP commissioner Pol Gen Damrongsak Kitipraphat announced the arrest of a husband and wife who sold bogus sim cards on Facebook on a page called Import Group.

Two thousand people fell victim to the scam. The cards offered internet for a year and 24 hours of "free" calls for just 999 baht instead of the usual 3,999 baht.

Thaniwan and husband Phonnaree were arrested at a house in Lat Krabang, Bangkok, after complaints from a group of victims near the end of January.

INN reported that losses among the 2,000 people were 6 million baht - a vinyl board put the figure at 5 million.

The couple are now in the custody of the Klong Luang police after it was discovered they had previous offences on similar matters.

Gen Damrongsaik said that the public can report matters like this not just to the PCT but any police station - they are all well connected these days.

Why do the figures never add up?

If 2,000 people paid 999baht each thats approximately 2 million baht.

Where does the other 3/4 million baht come from? ????
