Greetings. I will renew my retirement visa (I have had 3 already). Do I need to deposit 800,000 three months before or as someone with history of retirement here, does this NOT apply? Denny

It applies to everyone but has not yet been enforced for those already on extensions of stay - it appears they will start after your first extension under the new rules (so they can inform you of the requirement for next time). But if I had the chance I would do it now just in case it is enforced earlier.

Hi Denny, I am a Brit. I renewed my ret visa two weeks ago 8 May 2007 at soi suan plu. It went smoothly, but I was told that next time:

a) the 800000 or more would have to be in the bank 3 months before application, as you still have to show 800000 on the day of application (don't forget to take an ATM slip showing your balance on the day of the application). I underlined or more as I live off my once-per-year transfer so I may have to put more in depending on the price of Singha.

:o the health cerfificate proving we do not have leprotitis or elephantsitisectomy etc will not be required. I could not get a consistent answer as to why, but this has only been a requirement for my last 2 applications as you have probably experienced.

c) I asked the very helpful ladies about timing and they seemed to agree that the new rules will apply one year after your "this" years application. Don't quote me on this one!

As to the ret visa advice on this site, I do not know where they are coming from! Unless this is generic advice for first time applicants of various nationalities.

Cheers Tonmai

Can you confirm that they accepted an ATM slip on the day of application to prove your balance and not a formal letter from the bank stating your balance ?

I suppose you also provided copies of your bank book ?

Hi Denny, thanks for your post. I will be pursuing a retirement visa in the near future and have several questions. One being: What happens to the money in the bank if/when I die? This might be a "no brainer" but my limited experience w/ Thai banks require "on the spot" signatures etc. So if my beneficiary is not in Thailand is this a problem??? Just wondering.

may be a bit naive but wouldn't a will lodged in Thailand cover everything for your beneficiaries?
