Popular Post Banana7
On second road, near Royal Garden mall, at about 1PM today, there was a big police checkpoint. They were pulling over all motorcycles, checking all documents. They have been starving for revenue for a longtime so imagine we'll be seeing lots more checkpoints from now on.

Popular Post scubascuba3
They were there from 11amish, it's an official police checkpoint, many police, I don't have a problem with that, they waved me through. I don't like the rogue illegal policeman who try to earn money, the one where 2nd road meets Pratumnak Hill was there years, very shady
Popular Post banglay
There's 12000 organized check points nationwide through-out Thailand being set up during the Song Khran festivities in the hope that it will reduce road fatalities (Drunk driving ) It's got nothing to do with Tea money ... so you can put your BIB paranoia to bed lol ???? PS for the last 5+ years or so when stopped at check points I just show all the correct paper work etc. and I am quickly saluted then on my way ...Never being asked for tea money when everything is correct and in order .. Peterw42
Its been widely advertised that checkpoints in general haven't been operating much due to covid, shutdowns etc. and are resuming, And extra checkpoints for Songkran period. If anything its just a return to having normal checkpoints that have been non-existent for the last 12 months, not a concerted tea money exercise.

Not a single checkpoint experienced. I could have passed Soi 9 without a helmet (which I don't). Also not observed other riders stopped. And the real cash cows (e.g. rental big bike racers in swimming trunks and flip flops only) are simply absent (heaven thanks). Also: last time driving down by car (560 km). Not a single checkpoint on the way. Exceptional. (I don't drive much with the car within the city) Edited April 8, 2021 by KhunBENQ
AgMech Cowboy
Carry your license and paperwork required. (Visit a lawyer and get a card). Don't speed or drive recklessly. Be courteous. And above all "DON"T DRINK (alcohol) AND DRIVE"!!! You will be fine!

For me it's the delay. It's been great without the checkpoints. I don't look forward to the traffic jams and delays caused by them. I would question the effectiveness of these checkpoints in reducing fatalities. Most illegal drivers can simply avoid them, or accept the 200 Baht fine and continue on their merry way.

Exactly, already for more than a year no checkpoint opposite the Lotus-mall in Hua hin. It looks like "No honey, no money"

As for the Delays I have never been stopped (Touch Wood) And that wouldn't to bad. Yes for sure All the locals know where the checkpoints are and they dodge them all the time.
