I'd very much appreciate any help on this one:

Father in law is a British citizen, Mother in law is a Thai citizen,

They would both like to come to Australia for a holiday

Any problem obtaining visa for Mother in law?

Father in law is currently in Australia with me, and had no problems with entry, but is worried about his wife's possible entry in the future.

Thanks for any advice ... :o

Most of your questions should be answered here

If you and/or your wife are Aussie residents and wish to bring mother (in-law) out to Oz for a visit, you can apply for tourist visa 48S Form. This is lodged in Australia.

You or your wife then becomes the sponsor but one of you will need to support the application as far as finances are concerned.

If the application is approved, mother (in-law) will be instructed to take her Thai passport to the Aust. Embassy, Bangkok, where they will stamp the tourist visa into her passport.

If you wish to apply in Thailand, the 48R Form will be required.

It will take about one month to process in Oz but only 5 days in LOS.

If dad is already out here, I can't see anything that would prevent mum from also visiting.

Ok, we are currently temporary redidents of Australia, but hope to be permanent residents by the time they'd like to return. By the sounds of things once we are PR we'll be ok ... :o

If your current status is 'temporary' resident, the 48S Form is not for you. You need to be a permanent resident to act as a sponsor.

The 48S Form may also require the posting of a $$$ security bond.

You can take a look at the 48S Form by clicking here.

The 48R Form requires no security bond but it could mean a lot of hassle for you in forwarding papers etc. to the applicant in LOS and having the applicant take care of lodging the application. I'm assuming that she already has a passport.

If she is self sufficient and can show that she has the funds in her bank account to cover her expenses whilst in Oz, she won't need anybody to sponsor her.

Click here for the link to the Australian Embassy, Bangkok.

Have a read of all the information in the Australian Visa Application Centre.
