Popular Post webfact
The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority had some ready answers after an online post featured their airbus #556 spewing black smoke amid loud noises. It happened inbound on Baromratchachonnanee Road yesterday morning. The BMTA said that the situation was caused by air-con fluid coming into contact with heat after a leak. They said no one was injured. The bus was on its way back to the garage. There was no fire. They described the bus as old stock. Channel 7 reported that 2,511 old buses are on the roads in Bangkok, some have been plying the capital's streets for 30 years. There are plans to replace them with clean, new, electric vehicles but a BMTA official told the media this will be addressed with the cabinet after the pandemic is over. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-04-13 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

You mean this clapped-out vehicle actually had an air conditioner fitted to it? Last time I was in Bangkok all the busses appeared to have "air conditioning" provided in the form of all the windows wound down!! 2 1

This looks pretty "new" compared to some others on Bangkok roads, and just unwrapped compared to what is driving around in some other provinces... Seriously, I get nostalgia when I see same model of the bus I took 25 years ago drive past. It is probably actual same bus, not just same number and model. Now if I think of buses 8 and 44... they must be worth a lot. Museums in other countries would pay top dollar for them.

The picture shows windows that don't open, and you can clearly see the A/C unit on the roof.
rwill
Freon creates Phosgene when exposed to high heat. Phosgene was a nerve agent used during WWI. It was one of the things we were taught to be careful about when brazing old refrigerant lines. I don't think the refrigerant itself would smoke like that but there is also oil in the system. newnative
Ha. He described the bus as 'old stock'. Isn't it all! The old, un-airconditioned ones are absolute horrors.
