have just been listening to Scriabins 3rd symphony 'the divine poem'

quite extraordinary music, and if you've not heard Scriabin but are interested generally in classical music, he is well worth exploring. Composed 4 other symphonies and much piano music, his piano concerto is exquisite, and i suggest will delight lovers of such concerti if you have not heard it.

Sadly he died in 1915 aged only 43, He was greatly influenced by the 'apocalyptiscim' prevalent at the turn of the century in Russia, and was argueably suffered from megalomania as he thought of himself as the centre of the universe.

In the last years of his life he was making efforts to compose what in his view would have been the greatest work of art in human history, the 'Mysterium'

this would have involved massive orchestral forces, lasting 7 days and featuring dance, sounds, and even the clouds being lit up! It was to have been performed in the Himalayas and would have 'transfigured' the world to a new golden age.

Of course the work was not completed, but fragments of the opening movement were discovered many years after his death, and they to can now be heard on cd.

Cheers Wap
