Jonathan Fairfield Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Image: Sanook Sanook quoted Dr Jaratpong Sukkree of the Nakhon Sri Thammarat department of public health as saying that a further three family members of a 32 person extended family had tested positive for Covid-19. Now 23 people in the family were positive. The other nine are being monitored. It came after one of them attended a Songkran cultural water pouring event. The province now has 138 infections. The youngest is a four month old baby in Chang Klang district who caught it from a family member who went to Samut Sakhon. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-04-24 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1
Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted April 24, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2021 Travel and travel alone has caused this spread. I hope and pray that this family heals and not one death occurs. They may blame themselves, but in reality a lack of common sense by the Government is to blame as they should have stopped the travel knowing full well what could be the biggest catalyst for spread. Was it intentional on their part, well I hate to say one way or another. 4 2

greenmonkey Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 This is exactly why the govt tried their hardest to supress the real numbers of covid infections... this is quite simply down to their decision to publicly encourage people to travel for songkran. 1 1
Popular Post Elkski Posted April 24, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2021 I remember the Wednesday before songkran when many of us said songkran should be cancelled. To me the numbers showed things were like a volcano ready to blow. But no!! the new highway had to be shown off and for free, I bet this helped petrol sales, was this free highway just to encourage gas usage! Who profited by this? Many farang still argued we were wrong and the economy had to be saved. But most of the Thai economy was cranking along. Yes the tourist sector was hurting. How did such a small sector get to influence policy? Because tourism was a highly profitable Rip off. How can BkK hotels charge western prices when the workers make 800$/ mo? Working 70 hour weeks. Building prices have been so low relative to western countries using foreign labor making like 12$/ day living in inhumane conditions? Yes some land value is high but many are old land purchases. Same for restaurants that claim labor costs are a big %. I got off track. The main thing is soon my prediction I made 10 days ago of 5000 cases a day within 3 weeks post songkran will come true and a lockdown will be forced and all sectors will suffer. And I fear it will be a long wait for a decent recovery given the poor vaccines and vaccination program Thailand has planned. Actually it seems the idea of a plan B just started this week. Why was Phuket given shots before all healthcare workers? Why government first! Says it all really. I just hope this causes the people to " wake up and take their share"! 2 3

Yes you could say the government should have canceled Songkran and been more proactive, they indeed were the catalyst for this latest outbreak and should face the consequences of their in-actions. But then again the ultimate protection is self protection, as a farang expat the government is doing diddly-squat for me, so I must protect myself, whether I go to a temple or go to a market etc. This extended family brought this demise onto themselves, and must face the consequences of their own actions. 1
