The young robber who stole a million baht in gold from a shop on the ground floor of Pantip Plaza in Bangkok was taken there to perform a reenactment in full personal protective equipment.

Worathon Sompang, 21, an army conscript, vaulted the counter at the Toh Kang shop at the Ngam Wong Wan mall last Saturday, April 24th.

Dressed in a white suit, with mask, face shield and cuffs Worathon showed how he stole 38 baht weight in jewelry before he was taken outside to reenact the theft of a motorcycle from a member of the public.

The suspect proved easy to catch after the brazen robbery, reported Daily News

He left the gold with his uncle who had raised him. He got his uncle to cash in two pieces for 49,000 baht and they split the proceeds before Worathon went back to his hometown in Loei in the north east.

He said that he had been on leave from the army for a month and was due to go back to his base on the 15th of April but he had no money for the bus.

So he decided to rob a gold shop.

He said he used a fake gun and after the crime threw that and his clothing in Klong Prapa.

Then he went to "hide" in Loei.

He went there in some style - in a taxi.

They couldn't find a fake gun for the re-enactment, so they used one of their own. The handcuffs were probably fake though...... and the PPE probably was.
