Man accused of chopping off thumb for Bt16m compensation

PHUKET: -- Police are now investigating into a case in which a 38-year-old Phuket resident allegedly chopped off one of his thumbs in a bid to claim more than Bt16million compensation from 30 insurance companies.

Speaking to police, the doctor who treated Pichet Porntantipong said the 38yearold man lost his thumb in a suspicious manner. An expert confirmed that it was unlikely that Pichet would accidentally chop off his thumb while cooking.

Police begin investigating into the case after an insurance company became suspicious and lodged a complaint.

I didnt know that an expert in cooking accidents actually existed .

I have seen my local somtham lady nearly loose the top of her thumb into my dinner while cutting up some tomato and watching tv at the same time.

I will be sure to tell her to get it insured as it could be worth upto 16 Million Baht.

My girlfriend lost her little finger in a plastic bag factory, she got the huge amount of 10,000 baths and she had to discuss with the police to get it (but they did not forget theit little commission!)
