billzant
Dear ThaiVisa, I have recently tried to renew my Driving License, and discovered that my immigration office has stopped issuing CoR. Through this British Consular forum I discovered that I can get an Affirmation of Residence from the embassy requiring an appointment, expense and effort and all that entails. That might work but because of Covid I don't know as yet. I have needed CoR before - for buying motor-bikes and then buying a car - normal routine things. Because immigration are not issuing CoR does that mean a wait then trip to the embassy every time? This situation is very unfair. It is happening with some immigration offices and not others. Which offices? Are they rural offices where few Farangs live? Do the motor-bike and car companies know this is happening? Do they just assume vehicles will be put in Thai partner's names? Do people want that? Or as in my case living alone I have no choice? Surely all the embassies and the car/bike companies can't find this acceptable. Isn't there more that can be done other than Affirmation of Residence? BillZ
soi3eddie
Until Covid-19 I never stayed long enough in one stretch to need a 90 day report so could never get a CoR from immigration and always had to get an affadavit (since 2005) from the British Consulate in Bangkok. About 2,000 Baht IIRC. Do you have a Yellow book for where you live? Many here report that their DLT will accept that (which they should) as proof of residence. billzant
Eddie, My Amphur told me to get a yellow Tabian Baan, and that would work with the local DLT. After two months I finally got it and took it to the DLT. They said no, and showed me a letter they wanted from the Amphur. Ander and frustration. Covid restrictions happened and the office is closed for renewing driving license.
