Thai Rath reported that a severe fire broke out at a plastics factory in Sukhaphiban 5, Soi 39 in Orngern, Sai Mai, Bangkok yesterday afternoon at 3.47 pm.

 

Fire and rescue services from Bang Khen at the scene encountered thick black smoke. 

 

The media reported that there was an unknown number of people possibly trapped inside. They promised updates.

 

The fire was at the Emstrade Co Ltd.

We are probably 3 miles away to the East as the crow flies, the pillar of smoke was biblical and with so little breeze spread North and South blotting the late evening sun. By the time we finished walking the dogs about 6.30pm the smoke pall must have been 5 miles or more wide in the sky.

 

There was a stench like burning paint, it must gave been hell closer in for the fire-fighters. I pity locals living close to that inferno, the smoke must have been extremely carcinogenic to plus it was bloody hot anyway, 36C.

It was a huge fire. We could see the flames leaping into the sky and the huge pall of black smoke, from our balcony 15 kms away.

This is a real bummer. Plastics burning.

If anyone was trapped inside one breath of that and you're done for... never mind burning.
