Our Dogs (a Thai Bangkaew....a temple Princess and a Bully

Sweetie is about 16 months old a pure bred Bangkaew and still growing!
We bought her as a puppy and she was raised completely by my wife as I left Thailand and couldn’t get back for a year! She accepted me back immediately and happily and now belongs to both of us!

She’s gentle with us but untrusting of any strangers.....we have four rai and she surveys and runs it from a high spot (an old table) every day.

Shes a hunter and totally fearless....couldn’t tell you how many times she’s been bitten by something or licked the frog!!

Absolutely loves the water and spends a lot of time in our koi pond and will even climb into a pail with an inch of water when she was little.

Lugley was a temple dog when she came to me....I was living here alone during the week then so she showed up one day and I fed her and scratched her ears...she came back next day first thing and took food from my hand and the day after she didn’t leave (she goes away at night sometimes to do Lord Knows What but here for breakfast every day)

Lugley taught Sweetie all the “dog things” she needed to know...both good and bad)! She has a sweet personality and very gentle and very fast....I swear I’ve never had a dog that can run like this.

Shes taught Sweetie how to run and they have races morning and again the cool of late afternoon but she resembles a sports car and Sweetie is more of a pickup truck????

Now there’s Big Duke....what can I say?! He’s a killer....a chicken killer, a duck killer, a cat killer (I’m afraid to say) and a dog killer!

Our hired man says people have been trying to poison him or put him down for years but when he’s in big trouble he hides out at the temple!!

Hes Lugleys boyfriend...she apparently likes bad boys!

The first day he showed up

kn our yard he was with three other nasty looking dogs and I picked up a rake and ran them all out...all but Duke! He wouldn’t leave...he wouldn’t look at me and he wouldn’t leave until he was ready!

Three days later he showed up out of the blue and Lugley licked his face all over while Sweetie had a growling fit.... he wouldn’t look at any one directly....just stood and watched for a good 30 minutes! Then he went out to the gate and peed on both posts....over the next few days he marked every corner and just left!

Showed up a few days later and ate some dog food but wouldn’t look at me or take anything from my hand!

My wife didn’t like him at all but I did!

Another few days later I was watching for him with a bag of fried chicken.....his nemesis I know now!

Took a little while but he couldn’t help himself....I wouldn’t drop it so he took a piece from my hand....almost broke my fingers but he took it!

He and I have become good friends and if he’s beat up from fighting he spends a week or two with us but if he’s healthy...he roams!

The last time he spent time with us he was so beat up I thought he might die and Sweetie took over lead dog as is a Bangkaew custom and it’s still that way although it’s not official!

We have to be there when three dishes of food are put out or there will be a fight for sure....he’s a street dog and he won’t change!!

Lugley is a street dog too but she plays the system well...she’s gentle and has become a huge diva...for two days we delivered her bowl wherever she was laying and she ate laying down!!

Breakfast in bed is great if you’ve never had it????
Sweetie is slowly becoming the boss of Duke....it’s inevitable because of her breed....I know there will be a war between them and just hope it’s not too bad!

ps: 2 men showed up at our gate when I was away and wanted us to pay for 2 ducks our dog had killed....lucky Duke wasn’t there and my wife sent them to the temple!

Its a shame...2 ducks can mean a lot to a farmer but is he really our dog?? If I have to pay for ducks for him I will but so far no one else has made a claim!

ps: we have three cats (one a street kitten) the other two of the spoiled princess variety and Duke has learned he can’t chase the cats or he won’t eat..very effective and he’s good with that!

If I’m there they walk right under his chin and he just looks at me and shakes. I don’t hjknk they do that if we’re not around????
