The first female president of Thailand’s Supreme Court, Metinee Chalodhorn, faces a tough mission to defend the judiciary’s reputation against growing allegations of double standards as political conflicts escalate.

Meeting with media editors in late December, almost three months after assuming office on October 1, Metinee insisted that the Supreme Court under her leadership would not tolerate political intervention in trials.

However, she pointed out that it was natural for one or both sides in court cases to feel dissatisfied with verdicts.

If that is the case than the court did not do its job. Most verdicts can not satisfy both sides indeed, but in general it is the midway and there most people can live with. But poor people sever punished and rich people get away with things is not the midway. Justitia is blindfolded to judge .

I believe it has always been thus!

The last decent Judge in kalaland shot himself -twice- such was his despair at the system. So good luck with that mission impossible.

Would like to know what she got those big medals for ?

A worthy mission against virtually impossible odds but good luck to you, Madam.  We need someone like you on the Constitutional Court bench too.

When does a judge know they got it right?

When both sides walk away <deleted> ????????????

He is a soldier wearing civilian  clothes and she is a civilian wearing military clothes! I am confused.

Let's be generous and say that she has her work cut out for her. Quite an undertaking, if she's being serious, and in that case I wish her all the best.

"Allegations"?

Sheesh, off to a crappy start.

Hustle off student protesters to jail, hold them for months without bail. Then go after their families. Look we get why they're doing this, selective application of draconian laws discourages others from exercising their rights to protest. And the regime doesn't have to kill any citizens. Win-win.

Meanwhile, the 2014 Shutdown Bangkok crew is convicted, and released on bail within 30-ish hours.

Student protesters at the German Embassy get arrested. Minion protesters at teh same embassy on the same day get a 200 baht fine for using a loudpseaker.

Sure, no double-standard at all.

Don't bother, there's not enough lipstick in the world to slather on this pig, which is the Thai "legal" system, to make it look like anything other than a pig.

She'll be back in the kitchen a soon as she tries to break ranks.
