Nocturnal Neighbors.

it seems that wherever I move in Thailand there is always an issue with a nocturnal neighbor.

 

By this I mean a neighbor who doesn't sleep at a reasonable hour, is usually still sat on his porch smoking and on the phone at 3am, or arrives home on his scooter with one of those dreadfully loud exhausts fitted on the back at quarter to 4.

 

last night was no exception.

 

In my vicinity there are two houses that I consider to be nocturnal. 

One house is a young family with I think a brother living with them.

They are all heavily tattooed and smoke like chimneys. 

They constantly have cars pulling up to their house day and night. Yesterday I saw 7 people get out of a tiny Nissan.

They seem to arise at noon and dont sleep till 4/5am.

 

the other house is a big family, two houses together i think and regularly sit outside until the sun comes up laughing and joking and splashing about in the pool.

The other day I woke up early (04:20) and caught a glimpse of them by the pool, they seemed to have a camera and lighting setup and were filming. 

What is going on????

 

None of these people ever seem to work.

We live on a very nice estate and our houses certainly weren't cheap.

I always think to myself 'how do these people afford to live where they do?'

 

Anyone else ever had experiences with nocturnal neighbors?

Nope, nearest neighbor 400m, everywhere dead quiet, and most shutdown by 9pm

 

Nothing moves again until 4am market.

Nah...we are so lucky....except for a neighbor three doors down who has three noisy dogs that bark at everything that goes by, the place is quite peaceful.  Almost too peaceful...but not complaining at all. It was a big adjustment living here after 5 years in Bangkok...without the constant traffic noise I stared at the ceiling for the first week as the quiet was unnerving.

 

Unfortunately you never can control who your neighbors are in these MooBaans. We are fortunate to have an end townhouse with a huge 4 meter high wall that separates us from the next village over so only one side connected neighbor and the folks across the  street (Tomboy/Pretty couple) leave at 6 am for work and don't return until 9 PM and shut down right then too. Next door neighbor single woman with a cat.

We hear nothing until cockerels at 5am, then the village PA system at 6am, (time for BBC Midnight News), then temple at 7.

The frogs can be very loud, croaking away in the rice field next to our property.

Does that count as noisy nocturnal neighbors?

Nope, lived all over Chiang Mai and never had a problem with night time noise.

Probably something to do with your choices of places to live.

 

Sounds like you're surrounded by drug dealers and porn video producers.

Blood pressure has rocketed just reading this.......I have come to realize that it is not the noise that is so annoying (to me) it is the unbelievable selfishness of people who think nothing of destroying other peoples peace and quiet.

 

I am lucky I was not brought up in America............or I would resort to a solution that would lead to a long jail sentence.

 

Never buy.....only rent......move if the worst comes to the worst.......happy tp lose my deposit if it comes to it.

The worst we had was a 12 year old girl next door with a karaoke machine.

She's in her thirties now and I still haven't forgiven her.

Yes, I feel for you - We live in a odd row of 6 odd townhouses in the middle of nowhere, we had a nice community - neighbors working in oil industry and manager at big C .. until one moved out.
 

Since then as neighbors, we had a money lender and his crew (who was harmless enough but just sitting outside until the small hours), a gang of kids who were dealing drugs - we saw guns and fighting, rolling back home at 3.00 - 4.00 am every night, followed by parties, we managed to get them out, but they were taken over by a guy who uses the house to store duty free contraband, so now we have pickup trucks. The guys seem to use the place to occasionally put the TV on full blast and crash out for a bit or bring back hookers and knock them about about. 
 

The house is in a discreet location, kind of place that’s perfect for petty criminals.

 

Now they are building opposite our houses - just our luck to meet the most industrious crew of Burmese builders in the history of man, they don’t stop banging from 7.30 until 5.30.

 

Time to move on from our little spot after 10 years.

Next , wait until noisy neighbors have finally gone to bed then throw open the windows and learn to play it on full volume. If you find a difficult riff you want to master just play it repeatedly a few hundred times until you crack it.

 

Hopefully this will prevent them sleeping until their body clocks reset to your time

Down the street from my house there is one family that makes a huge racket. all the girls work the bar and they have parties twice a week. 

 

The houses either side of them are rented out for about one or two months at a time due to the noise.

 

Feel so sorry for the owners

If an estate then thee are rules and legally in Thailand there is a cut off time and a start up time. I think 11 pm and 8 am. Currently there are also outside restrictions after a certain time because of the emergency decree still in effect until July 31. Estates also have security guards and there should be a nominated person who is the Moo bahn rep.

It's far from normal behavior I  know that much!

Never done, but have considered a sound system for the garden and looped track of a dog barking......FULL BLAST......until they get the message.

Absolute nightmare......renting is the only answer.......unless you have the money to buy a small estate plus razor wire and Dobermans

that may be the next option for me mate. 

 

an acre of land in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a 15ft concrete wall, razor wire, shards of glass, search light, cameras etc. 

 

It seems to be the only way I will ever be truly happy here.

I have had various designs in my head for sometime.............double fenced with hungry Dobermans trapped between the two fences is something you might also consider.

I saw that your nocturnal neighbors created a post on another website. They were complaining about some guy next door that stays awake all day long and makes noise while they are trying to sleep.????

My guess is Uni kids catching sunrise for a class project movie short film or a tik tok short, but you would probably be able to tell for how the people looked and how they were dressed, but if you say family then if not distant cousins that would be odd. I did meet a gal in CM a long time ago who did do porno shoots with visiting kid foreign guys and posted them. But it is possible as doing it for money as an income, and so when BritManToo mentioned that it seemed plausible. Now the drug dealers sound spot on and both could be related to that if always late night to early early mornings. .

That was renting.

 

We looked to move a few times from the town house but it was a great deal, and the house was really nice. Land is expensive down here and most houses are townhouses - chances are you are moving into the same situation. Wether it be market traders storing rotting vegetables in the car port or kids with loud bikes. 
 

We bought our own plot in Issan, we spent a lot of time finding the right piece of land based upon what we learned - big enough to build away from people and a big wall.

That can backfire, too, though. We stay in my wife's village at times. 20 homes, maybe. Someone's always 'up' making noise, it seemed. I never understood why the neighbors let them at it.

 

There a number of houses for sale or rent in my area, which is mostly very quite. Although, I heard there was one house a few blocks away whose occupants had those weird hours. No more, though. We've a security group that tamps down on such behavior (not confrontational, but they take care of business).

 

Thanyathani Home on Green 1 & 2 if you're interested. NC Group are the developers, but the houses are now listed with agents. It's near the Thanya Golf club.

Possibly have their own "channel" for movies broadcast at that hour, shot by a pool,  could be quite lucrative, and wonder what is being done with people coming and going all night? Could be also lucrative
