Does anyone know of the location of some electronic component shops in BKK, who sell eg resistors, capacitors, wireless items and antennas etc for electronics/radio enthusiasts/amateurs?

Pantip Plaza is no good since it's all computer gear. MBK is just mobile phones.

Anyone know of a good 'hobby' shop?

Cheers

Top floor of Fortune Town has an 'assorted bits' place, not a vast selection but ok since it's in town.

Zeer Rangsit (underneath the Asia Airport Hotel) has a big electronics supermarket with pretty well anything you need along with various kits and tools :D

There IS an area of BKK that specialises in components been there a couple of time with the chaps from the office, unfortunately no idea where it is :o

Ban Mo is in Chinatown area and if you take a taxi to The Old Siam shopping center it is one block west (towards the klong) (S&P is on west side of shopping center). It is also the diamond shopping area of long standing. They are shops along the street rather than a mall.

anybody know of a similar supplier in the pattaya area

There is a good shop in the Sri Racha Nakorn area behind the Robinsons Mall.

If your in Rangsit a good option to Ban Mo is in the Zeer shopping mall . ground floor in back , there is a electronic component supermarket.

One floor below that there are a few small shops that also sell wire , connectors , LCD dispays.

In Ban Mo the Old Siam shopping mall , top floor has some electronic parts shops but most can be found in the area outside the mall.

As for amateur radio stuff VHF stuff can be found in small shops all over the country , HF equipment I have only seen in Ban Mo.

Few years ago there was one shop that sold HF radio's and antennas near Pinklau but that has now closed. (Siam radio).

Also for small parts you can find some in the OHS shops around bangkok , usually found some in big Tesco's shopping centers.

Good place to check if your intrested in amateur radio is www.qsl.net/rast

Make sure you get an amateur license in Thailand before you go on the air , they take that very serious here.
