Can anyone think of a currently living American expat that is more notorious than McAfee was?

Well, he's rumored to have died in 2007, but Robert Vesco?

For a lcoal angle, John Paul (Sr.)

Clearly this person(n00dle) is not to be trusted. He thinks it is OK to lie in order to swindle you out of your money. It's no wonder many foreigners living in Thailand avoid other foreigners.

I think you are reading to much into a simple observation that has nothing to do with my own moral leanings. But the righteous do tend to be rather myopic  in their world veiw.

I was merely observing that, often, crime pays.  There are certainly plenty of precendent to back that up.

Also, often something is only considered criminal after the fact. The first person to find the loophole wasnt breaking the law. The laws develop in hindsight to plug he gaps.

Early pump and dump schemes fit nicely into that category of grey.

Id reccomend getting over yourself. discussion is not the same as action. Nor is a single observation indicative of what I do or do not believe.

Anyone who pretends to be righteous is lying to somebody, most often themselves.

In marketing something, especially financial instruments, it is and should be illegal to tell lies about it to suck people in to buying it.

The Federal Reserve seems to be getting away with it - and for a LONG time

From the linked article above:

He was also charged in a separate indictment in Manhattan federal court in March for a pump-and-dump scheme involving cryptocurrencies that he was touting on social media.

In that case, McAfee and an accomplice allegedly bilked bitcoin investors out of some $13 million in two schemes, including one where they bought up large quantities of “alt-coin,” then inflated the price of it by publicizing it on Twitter.

They then sold off the cryptocurrency at the inflated price and made a $2 million profit, prosecutors said.

I wonder what handle he used on TV to pump his cryptocurrencies. Anyone care to guess?

Musk does that weekly. How is that illegal?

Just because someone else is breaking the law too does not make it legal...

What Is Pump-and-Dump?

Pump-and-dump is a manipulative scheme that attempts to boost the price of a stock or security through fake recommendations. These recommendations are based on false, misleading, or greatly exaggerated statements. The perpetrators of a pump-and-dump scheme already have an established position in the company's stock and will sell their positions after the hype has led to a higher share price.

This practice is illegal based on securities law and can lead to heavy fines. The burgeoning popularity of cryptocurrencies has resulted in the proliferation of pump-and-dump schemes within the industry.

How much TESLA stock has Musk dumped?  His job (and the job of every corporate employee) is to increase the value of the company stock.

He jumped the gun on some funding announcements, and got his peepee whacked for it.  If he fibbed weekly, he'd be getting called on the carpet every week by all the lawyered up shorts he's spanking.
