I like the way a guy who 'accidentally' overstayed by 1.5 years ( easily done, doesn't time fly when you're having fun) questions the IQ level of the regular posters here with valid visas. I'd suggest your own IQ is inversely proportional to your overstay period in Thailand.

Hope you learned some thai phrases while here - anything related to prison life, ciggie trading and being a sex slave will be especially useful.

I think that our sheep shagger pal is not the full quid Chris. Thank God there is a good reason for the overstay :o I wonder where he nicked the 20,000 baht to pay the overstay charge.

You are kinda real cool:-)

I am not so good with English but you said something like.

Help me i am avery bad boy.

i am break the laws of Thailand but i have a great reason so that is ok.

Then you said please can someone help but if you want to tell me the truth then do not bother.

Ok i give you the answer to your question so you can MAYBE leave Thailand and hope u not come back.

Go to the airport and tell them your great reason. Smile a lot and have about six months of MY salary ready to pay.

They MAY let you go but Thailand owns Thailand NOT you and they do not have to.

If you are caught anywhere in Thailand your visa will be checked and they put you in some bad place with a lot of nasty things happe. i read it in the newspaper that it is not nice place.

Next yif you are outside Thailand you get a brain and then lose your passport. Then apply for a business visa so Thailand know where you are and why you want to come here.

But JoeThai you have to not be so bad mouth farang.

phut mai dee yer maak. Mai liew krai fang!

Hi all:

My question or visa "problem" now seems like a walk in the park compared to the last postings. I just joined this forum and this is my first posting, but I am so relieved to find a bunch of farangs to talk to instantly about this stuff. It's also been extremely amusing.

I've been here 2 years, and have mostly been on time with my visa renewals. A couple of times I've been 2 to 3 days late, paid the fine and had no problems. My last visa run was to Laos, where I paid 2000 baht for a 10 day overstay. I wasn't sure if I how long I was going to stay, so I rationalized that 2000 baht was not significantly more than the 1900 baht 10 day extension fee. When I went to BKK immigration to renew this time, they gave me a stamp that said I was not permitted to stay in the Kingdom, but gave me 10 days stay anyway. My deadline is July 1st, but they put a minus sign in front of the date.

Of course, I take this to mean that I have to leave before July 1 (I guess that is the meaning of the minus sign), but why would they say I'm not permitted to stay in the Kingdom when they gave me 10 days? Should I expect troubel when I try to re-enter the Kingdom? Does any overstay automatically mean you are "blacklisted"?

Thanks so much for your help.

it sounds like you have been renewing the 30 day on arrival visa pass for the last 2 years, if this is so they have just launched a clampdown on this style of extended and persistent abuse of the system.........thier words not mine.

what you should try and get is a 9(3) or 12(4)mth multi entry tourist visa this would mean doing a visa run every 60days or you can get an 30 ext as well and do it at 90 days.the down side to this is you have to get the visa outside thailand (the info i got from the thai consul in Hull UK)

so it would mean a visit out of thailand (maybe back to your home country)

they might ask how you have lived the passed 2 years in thailand with out working so it might pay to have some docements showing money coming from outside thailand otherwise they may assume that you are working illegally.

other posters will give more info i am sure

over to you dr patpong

hope this helps

the minus sign is normal, it's because your date is a "1" so the single digit has a minus in front of it.

no

I recently paid the 20,000Baht fine for almost 2 year visa overstay. I can give you some advice.

1. Dont be nervous. If you turn yourself in to immigration they cannot (by thai laws anyways) put you in jail or deport you if you have the money to pay

"You can easy clear an heavy overstay at the Airport, but if you are caught by Immigration before you reach the airport, you will be jailed and deported until you can pay your fine and show a one way ticket back to your home country.

If you overstay by one day, there is no charge. After that, it's 200B per day, so 2 days is a 400B fine, 3 days 600B etc...

Paying the fine is simple. When going through Immigration, they will notice the overstay and take you to a desk to pay it, taking about 5 minutes in all. Fines can also often by paid in advance at any Immigration bureau. You will not be jailed it you volontarily clear up your overstay.

2. Be ready for alot of questions, false drama, good cop/bad cop, etc...This is immigrations job, they dont want people overstaying and they want you to know it is very illegal and they have the upper hand. Act calm and nice, dont get nervous. Smile!

3. My only excuse was that I was "scared" of immigration and did not want to go to jail. They smiled and told me "never be scared of us, if you have a problem let us know we can help you"

4. It might be a good idea to have more than 20,000Baht maybe 40,000+ or so just so they know you have enough money to get around and are not "breaking the bank" just to pay the fee

5. They do regulary check the buses and trains on the way to Laos and back. It might be a good idea to tell a laywer of your plans to turn yourself in to immigration in case you get stopped before you make it. I didnt do this, but it seems like a good idea now, since I got stopped on my way back and asked to show my passport on the bus.

I say just bite the bullet and get it over with as soon as possible. The overhanging fear and frustration is just not worth it, dont worry unless you really screw up at immigration you are NOT going to jail, and everything should be fine.

Good luck!

I do not understand the hostility toward illegal immigrants on this board. I live in the US, and have been around them all of my life. Most make money and eventually end up leaving, and some eventually become permanent citizens. I guess Is this cultural thing?

I know I will have to jump though hoops to remain in Thailand, and I think it is rather an odd affair, but, I will do it for the woman I love, since we are having such a rough time getting her a visa in the US, and she has a business and family.

Frankly, the whole thing is depressing. I would have never gone looking for a Thai girl had I known all the hassles, but, then again, I suppose that is part of the reason for the law. get out :o

A kinda strange attitude you have to illegal immigrants in the LOS. And you are having difficulties getting a visa for the girl to visit your country. Perhaps all immigration offices are out to get you.

Its the fact that people willfull go break the law when they don't have to. Its even worse when it comes from Farangs who have the means to do things by the book, and then don't.

These are usually the same people who then whinge about how corrupt Thailand is, but then somehow think that being a farang in Thailand exempts them from any need to follow the rules themselves, just because theyhappen to think a partcular law is silly.

When moving to another country I think everyone has to jump through a fair few hoops. Admittedly, Thailand is not a typical immigrant nation along the lines of the US/Canada/Australia, so it is inevtitable that things may not be as streamlined or straightforward. But there defienetly are legal ways to stay here, especially if you are prepared to productively contribute to Thailand. Many farangs have done so.

Unfortunately many people seem to think that being a perpetual tourist qualifies as 'productive', which fails to recognise that even countries with formal immigration programmes require those who move there have some sort of skills to fill labour and skills shortages, whether they be a seasonal fruitpicker or a highly skilled doctor.

I also want to add, as a fellow American, that in no way does an experience as a farang trying to get a visa to stay with "the woman I love" qualifie as an "illegal immigrant" within any country's context. I really don't want to start controversy here, but before we start feeling sorry about our "illegal immigrant" status in Thailand, where someone can pay 20,000 baht and still re-enter twice, let's remember the real illegal immigrants - Burmese that cannot even breathe without being arrested or fined. There, that should make you feel better.

Hey Joethai, why don't you tell us the reason behind the overstay? I think everyone would love to know. Also, the collective highly intellectual advice could then be more constructive to your particular case, maybe!

Good luck.

His reasons are very, very deep and much too secret to be shared with the likes of us.
