phetphet Posted July 3, 2021 Share Posted July 3, 2021 Was planning a trip to Koh Madsum, aka Piggy Island. Someone told me that all the pigs on Koh Madsum had recently died. Possibly due to a virus. Also if you are just going there to see the pigs, there is a similar pig at Than Sadet beach, Koh Phangan, it is roaming around the Mai Pen Rai restaurant. Pigs apparently..........after the mosquito feeds off the pig and then goes to a human. Popular Post phetphet Posted July 5, 2021 Author Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2021 I have luckily seen many of these rare creatures thanks, and have visited Koh Madsum before. But GF's young daughter wanted to go there again to feed the pigs as she enjoyed it last time. It's bit of a novelty for kids to be able to feed and pet them. Plus, the place where they are/were is in a nice little spot with a small bar restaurant. A nice day out from Samui, but If they are all dead, it is pointless to raise her expectations. I circled before the island with a kayak and it is definitely not owned by one person or company, so who collects this fee ? At Koh Mad sum the eastern beaches get all the rubbish, no tourists go there and nobody cleans them. The touristy area is calm waters, no rubbish is brought by the sea. Seems like illegal money grab to me. Although they are smaller than previous photos. We organise tours there most weeks. Everyone who has been has had a good time and had fun. Includes snorkelling and fishing if you want. I cannot comment on the 50 baht as we do not see that charge. We just pay the guy who owns the boat. My partner organises it all. It does seem to be a small amount to make a fuss over though. I give that much to the government workers who clean the streets if I see them. It is a small amount to me, but lunch for them.
