Three months of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s salary, and those of some the government spokesperson’s team, will be spent on COVID-19 “survival boxes”, to be distributed to people in the “Dark Red” zone, according to Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri.

Earlier in July, the prime minister, along with several cabinet members, declared that they will forego their salaries for a few months to help in the fight against the current wave of the pandemic, which is the most serious since the spread began early last year. Today (Wednesday), Thailand recorded yet another high of 13,002 infections, as opposed to only a few hundred per day last year.

The boxes will contain necessities for people who think they may have contracted coronavirus but can take care of themselves. Among the items will be thermometers, oximeters, pain killers, Thai herbal medicine Fah Talai Jone, surgical masks and sanitiser gel, said Mr. Anucha yesterday.

Of course the transparency of this immensely generous selfless act will be clear for all to see.

A drop in the bucket.

How about just cancelling some of the unnecessary road projects ruining roads in pattaya and elsewhere with hairbrain steel grate drainage ideas or 3000 dollar shopee lamposts.  And cut the military expenditure the govt is in the hip pocket of China so where is the threat? That would free up a lot more than three months of his salary.

That's nice

This is truly a momentous and historic occasion.

The Czar, with only the most noble of intentions, is selflessly donating .00001% of his riches to the same people he extorted this fortune from in the first place.

The nation sings his praises and joyfully applauds his boundless generosity.

And who say's he doesn't care .....    We don't hear this type of sincerity back home or elsewhere.

Good job Khun Prayut Chan O Cha.  :wai:

That's an old photo from 3 years ago. 555

If they donated all the funds to be skimmed and embezzled for the next three months their would be enough for lunch boxes for the poor for many years.

But please try a little harder

If the entire Thai 'Government' donated 3 years' salary to help those worst affected by the complete mismanagement by the 'Government' of the pandemic situation, it would not be nearly enough compensation for the total b*lls-up they've made of this shambles!

Survival box. How about a box with some vaccines you ????

My wife tells me Thai's dont want him to wave the salary.  They want him to wave goodbye.  What do I know ????

Just how much more publicity can they get out of this benevolent gesture?

Good question, when I was 6 my Mum used to say, if you are lazy and keep lying you won't get it up anymore.

Only 3 months salary,, he should be made to donate all his ill gotten gains he has a massed since 2014.

So the great one is going to give a few boxes of, thermometers, a $5  blood oxygen meter, some paracetamol, some micky mouse hebal medication that apparently prevents the virus spreading,  some masks and a bottle of sanitiser gel.

The masks, sanitizer gel and 5000 THB should have been distributed months ago.

Food centers should be set up immediately if only to give rice to the needy.

This publicity motivated gesture is an insult to his people.

" thermometers, oximeters, pain killers, Thai herbal medicine Fah Talai Jone, surgical masks and sanitiser gel"

they have already have them from the local health centre, when tested positive or diagnosed with symptoms. They don't need double, might be difficult to cash them, as they are low value.

it's just an early election campaign for the junta party. They will be cashing on this PR publicity stand till the general election the next year.

The real bananas are at Thammanat's hands, handling up to 130mln bht per MP's heads in their inter party seat swapping.

Simple distraction..... the money could have also been spent on coffins for those that have died due to past failings... but that would not read so well would it!

Those would of course not be called survival boxes offering smiling people photo opportunities..
