Time magazine includes two Thai destinations in its 3rd annual listing

TAT Newsroom

Bangkok – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that Bangkok and Khao Yai National Park have been included in Time magazine’s list of ‘The World’s Greatest Places of 2021’.

In compiling this 3rd annual list of the World’s Greatest Places, Time considered nominations of countries, regions, cities, and towns from its international network of writers with a particular interest in those offering new and exciting experiences. The list was published on 20 July, 2021.

The magazine described the inclusions in the World’s Greatest Places of 2021 as “100 extraordinary destinations to explore”.

Bangkok

Commenting on Bangkok, the magazine said “Bangkok has always been known for its hustle and bustle. Soon the Thai capital will boast Southeast Asia’s largest railway terminal as well. In November, Bang Sue Grand Station, containing 26 platforms over four floors, is expected to open, shuttling passengers all over the country and a wider region.

“Two luxury hotels have also opened on Bangkok’s riverfront: Andy Miller and Richard Scott Wilson’s playful Capella Bangkok, where each room and suite has a river view, and the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, which offers open-air terraces, pools, and a lobby art-exhibition space. Recent restaurant openings include Aksorn – by legendary chef David Thompson, who creates dishes from vintage Thai cookbooks, and Charmgang, which opened before the pandemic shutdown, known for its curry.”

Khao Yai National Park

Of Khao Yai National Park, the magazine said “Thailand’s most cherished natural wonders benefitted from the pause in international and domestic tourism. Rangers in Khao Yai National Park – a vast expanse of forest and grassland indented by rushing rivers and spectacular waterfalls – have reported an uptick in wildlife sightings during the pandemic, featuring a cast of animals including the Asian black bear and the gaur, the world’s largest bovine.

“The Park has also seen another kind of growth with hotel openings; such as, the all-villa Roukh Kiri Khao Yai and the upcoming InterContinental Khao Yai National Park, which will feature upcycled train cars that have been transformed into luxury suites.”

I nominate Leo beer as the best beer in the world with a Leopard on the label.

I've been crossing 'greatest places' off my todo list for the past 35 years.

Probably seen 100, and another 100 left to go ......... none of them were these parks.

Guessing they bribed the magazine to get listed.

Yet the authors probably spent the entire time on soI cowboy during their research visits.

This part... is a 'cancer' growth.

Bangkok 2021, really? Just like Phnom Penh was a great place to be in 1977.

Its how it works, treat the reporters and editors to a trip of a lifetime all expenses paid trip, and possibly being Thailand, that little piece on the side, and guess what they report it as a great place to visit

Maybe there are 2 Khao Yai parks in Thailand? I was very impressed by the one I visited. I don't see how anyone who likes that sort of thing wouldn't be.

The COVID virus is also looking forward to the new railway station. It will make it so much easier to get around the country.

Lest anyone should worry about this. The brand new hotels have all signed up to be ASQs. That’s right! A complete COVID package for your loved ones from initial infection to quarantine (and possibly … well … transportation back home in a body bag, no extra charge. Sorry about that.)

There are 100 places on the list so I suppose it's not a surprise to see a couple from Thailand. It does seem odd at a time when foreign visitors have been close to non-existent but the same can probably said for most of these places.

Thanks I had forgotten how spectacular that place can be.

I love Khao Yai! It’s my favorite place on earth!

Great timing! :clap2::clap2::clap2:At least the local generals and other assorted bigwigs have now 2 additional venues where they can wine & dine and lodge their dozens of mistresses.

Neither am I, have seen many places in the world like KY without being named " national park" and without entrance fee. Not seen any elephant, just signs saying beware of crossing elephants.

I take they did not visit while their were hordes of Chinese's tourists ? . The only bright side of this pandemic is a Thailand free of Chinese's tourists
