Same with Delta and god know what other variants. It's their nature, ie raison d'etre, pardon my french. It's like reporting another soi dog attacking the food delivery guy..

Things are moving so fast, I am losing track of of the names for the virus variants. Checking on it now, I see that the WHO assigns Greek letters only to variants classified as "Variants of Concern (VOCs)" and "Variants of Interest (VOIs)" . Three variants that were originally classified as VOIs and given the letters Epsilon, Zeta and Theta were subsequently demoted to "Alerts for Further Monitoring" with the names B.1.427/B.1.429, P.2 and P3 respectively.

The WHO has to go through the Greek alphabet first before moving on to something else. I doubt, though, that it will be a spelling table like alpha, bravo, charlie etc.
