BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) issued a statement today to reiterate the professionalism of all scholars who give advice to the Ministry on COVID-19 control measures, without any involvement in the procurement of vaccines and medical supplies as recently claimed by some groups of people. The statement reads as follows

STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH

In reference to comments on the role of the Ministry’s academic scholars:

Recently, some groups of people have expressed comments against the Ministry’s scholars, using harsh words that have had a negative effect on their work and daily life.

The affected Academic Advisory Team are medical scholars such as Prof. Dr. Yong Phuworawan, Faculty of Medicine Chulalongkorn University; Dr. Tawee Chotpitayasunondh, the National Communicable Disease Committee; Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University; Prof. Dr. Kunkanya Chokpaiboonkit, of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University, etc.

The Ministry of Public Health kindly requests understanding that the Ministry invited academically qualified professors and teachers from various medical institutes to join an advisory committee or other working groups. In the past, the Ministry has received continuous courtesy in support of them since before the outbreak of COVID-19, and everyone has given their opinions and advice independently and usefully. Not all the scholars have been involved in policy making, nor procurement of medical supplies and vaccines.

The Ministry of Public Health would however, like to thank all of the scholars for their contribution. The Ministry appreciates their dedication and thanks them for their sacrifices for the country, and would like to ask Thai society for understanding, and acknowledgement of their extremely valuable role. Thank you.

And we have vaccines for everyone. ????

as one can only suspect, those scientists are negatively selected according not to their academic achievements but willingness to support the government policies.

Those policies are based on fiscal gains, including shadowy ones.

So yes, they also should be blamed for wrong or non-existent covid supplies.

Why the AZ came only in June, and not sometimes in January, as in Korea, Japan, India and many other countries? In fact UAE started vaccinating their medics in September.

Why sinovac was ordered on January, and with over 30mln doses, but Pfizer and Moderna at the end of July, but with only 5-20mln doses coming at the end of year/beginning the next year?

Why during the first wave there were so many irregularities in hospital supplies, down to face masks and PPE? Quality products being exported/re-exported back to china, while substandard ones, without high medical certification were used and imported? At the same time dr anutin blaming medical personel for failing their hygiene routine and punishing them for unprofessional conduct. And government advising to saw their own multi-use mask? Now down to hospital alcohol not available, again, anywhere (except overpriced jells)?

Why there are so very few covid tests available and why are they so prohibitively expensive?

Why herbal treatment is advised but not many locally made and cheap antiviral and other medicines (ivermectin, aspirin, loperamide, tamiflu, aciclovir, colchicine, NAC, vit D, C, calcium, zinc, selenium, folic acid)?

Down to sheer absurd - cargo military planes carrying mild symptomatic patients to provincial hospitals at cost 15k per head?

All this lead to the situation there is now - overstretched health system, which was overburdened for over a year with asymptomatic covid patients and not preparing for a full blown epidemic caused by more potent strain (as is the case with Delta).

Those scientists suppose to step in with bright ideas in face of those issues. But instead dr Young almost daily with his dim statements, repeating ministry's mantra

If the academics had been in charge of selection and purchase instead of the current monkeys, maybe the situation wouldn't have developed into the schmozzle now being experienced.

What's with the military type line-up in the headline, is it muscle support for the speaker or is it simply blame sharing for the debacle.
