webfact
By Subhabhong Rarueysong BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand and Australia have agreed to pursue a strategic economic partnership, to boost bilateral trade and investment and expect to sign the deal next year. Thailand’s Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit said, after a teleconference with Dan Tehan, Australia’s minister for trade, tourism and investment, that Australia is keen to forge a strategic economic partnership with Thailand, in addition to the existing Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA). According to Mr. Jurin, the strategic economic partnership is another form of trade and investment relationship which is deeper than an FTA. Thailand initially proposed seven areas for the new partnership. They comprise processed agriculture, focusing on food, tourism, healthcare, education, e-commerce, the creative economy and others, such as energy and joint ventures. He said Australia pledges to speed up the conclusion of Thailand’s proposals and, once agreed, the country will invite him to sign the deal there, possibly next year. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-08-09 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Real Champagne only comes from the Champagne region in France. Many Australian wineries produce good sparkling whites which are as good as the real thing and much cheaper. Australian wine is generally fantastic and when I worked there I almost exclusively drunk wine over beer due to the quality.
Popular Post Aussieroaming
How about a free tariff agreement instead of the free trade agreement and the bilteral trade agreements. What Australia should do is impose the same import tariff rates on Thai goods that Thailand imposes on Australian goods, including on thai made vehicles that are exported to Australia. That way Thailand might start being a little more reciprocal in regards to the actual trade and consumption of products.

Not really the case, as France like many other countries and regions in the world wanted to protect their heritage and the products which were associated with various regions, i.e. champagne, and there were some glaring examples of poor quality sparkling wine which was labelled champagne and was damaging the name. It's not only France, you can get the same in England with Stilton cheese, Italy with Parma ham and so on. True enough, Australia did make some nice sparkling white wine, but it was nowhere near French champagne quality. However they do make some great red wines, although the French would never admit to it, and the argument about who makes the best wine, is very one-sided because the usual measure is that the best wines in the world command the best price and France wins hands down on that score. I was a French wine aficionado for decades, but now I have domiciled myself in New Zealand and Thailand (and Oz for a short while) I have taken a liking to the Aussie wines, and will defend them and their reputation until the day I go to the vineyard in the sky! The problem being that there is a great deal of difference between the cask wine which one can buy here in Thailand (from Oz) and that which is available in Australia. It was a great invention for the Aussies because it was very useful for barbecues and as an everyday drinker that could be kept in the fridge, and as a rule the quality was just a swigger, with no pretension to anything else, with some cask wines being of reasonable quality because they were surplus stock to some relatively good wineries. Contrast that with the cask wines available in Thailand and you will find that in most cases, they are already mixed in Australia, with fruit juice, in order to get round tax and duties, so what one buys here in Thailand is not the same as that which is available in Australia as a rule. Rawairat
After perusing the the agreement, I believe the FTA between Australia and Thailand was actually drawn up the the car makers as it was very specific to vehicles manufactured in Thailand not Australia

There is no import tariff on Australian wine but there is : Surcharge / Special duty (US$ 10 per import lot) Customs Fee US$ 50 Alcohol Excise tax: the rate is Baht 1,500 per litre of alcoholic content for a wine bottle not exceeding Baht 1,000 (retail). Wine priced higher than Baht 1,000 (at retail) will be taxed at 10 per cent of its price and Baht 1,500 per liter of alcoholic content.
