I now have a non immigrant "O" Retirement Visa and a 1 year extension of stay in Thailand .  I am 70, fully vaccinated with AZ in Thailand, I intend to go to Canada and return with the re-entry permit.  The problem is that I am married to a Thai but my Visa is based on retirement. 

 

Do I need to change this visa to a non immigrant "O" based on Marriage visa in order to forfeit this insurance?   Alternatively I could show the marriage certificate on my return to Thailand with the Non immigrant "O" retirement visa.  I will be traveling with my Thai wife and I will need a Certificate of Entry.    

 

Also I see this: Visitors who wish to visit Thailand for other purposes than tourism and need to apply for the Certificate of Entry must have valid non-immigrant visa or re-entry permit.  Hence for the CEO I need nothing else so I do not need this insurance?

correction

 

You (currently) do not need Insurance for the Non-O Immigrant visa but you do (or did the last time I checked) require $100,000 USD Covid Insurance to re-enter Thailand.... This can be obtained at a reasonable cost  & is only required for the length of the permission to stay granted on your Visa (for a Non-O is a maximum of 90 days OR the end of your Re-entry permit, whichever comes 1st).

 

If you did change to a Non-OA in Canada (NB You may have problems doing so as you still have a valid Non-O because of the re-entry permit) and want to minimise the Insurance requirements then get a Non-OA on the basis of being married (again, I think you need the $100K Covid cover) as this can be extended with 400K in the bank and without the In-Patient/Outpatient cover.

You could use the Thai family option to apply for the COE and they may not want the medical insurance needed for the retirement option.

For a non-o visa with a retirement extension with a re-entry not all embassies and official consulates are not requiring the medical insurance.

Thank you Ubonjoe, If I change my visa base on retirement for one base on Marriage, will it be better?  I am 70, the one year Insurance will cost $700...

You would not have to change your visa basis to one based upon marriage.

You would select this on the certificate of entry application. https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

You should be able to do that and not need the 40/400k baht medical insurance.

You would though need the $100,000 covid 19 insurance valid for the length of stay you will get when entering the country.

I know whats written above but I am still confused as not use to insurance speak.. I am 67yrs and wanting to return to Thailand to be with my longtime girlfriend and family...I thought if you were over 50yrs and wanted a Retirement Visa you needed health insurance, and on top of that needed $100000US covid cover...A top thai insurance company has given me confusing info..one is Long Stay Policy 400000 IPD x 40000 OPD  but apparently this does not cover covid 19, and they send another plan Thailand Sawasdee that does cover covid....am I to get both Plans for a Retirement Visa and Certificate of Entry?

A retirement visa does not exist.

Only Non-OA visa comes close to that. The OA visa allows unlimited one year permit to stays when entering the country for one year from the day it issued. It requires the medical insurance coverage for a one year, a criminal background check and medical insurance.

You can apply for single entry non-o visa that will allow one 90 day permit to stay when entering the country for being 50 or over. It only requires medical insurance valid for the 90 day entry it allows. The then during the last 30 days of the 90 day permit to stay you can apply for a one year extension based upon retirement.

You can also enter visa exempt or with a tourist visa and then apply for 90 day non-o visa entry at immigration with no medical insurance required.

You need the covid 19 insurance for any entry valid for the length of stay you get when enter the country.

2. My credit card provides for 3 month coverage could I use this for a Non O visa ?

If you have non-o visa from a embassy or after applying for a non-o visa at immigration you can apply for a extension of stay during the last 30 days of the 90 stay both will give give you.

2. It the insurance provided the required coverage it may be accepted. For covid 19 it must cover asymptomatic treatment after a positive test result.

3. No return or onward ticket will be needed it you have a non-o visa. For the visa exempt entry that will be for 45 days at this time and you will need a ticket out of the country within 45 days to show the airline.

 

Many thanks , I am not worried about Thai immigration , but if I have a 90 day non O visa when I leave Australia the airline will want to see a return or onward ticket to comply with my 90 day visa, even though I have an intention to extend while In Thailand  otherwise they won’t let me board my outbound flight from Australia, hence why I was asking about a cheap onward ticket/throw away ticket to satisfy them when I depart Australia.

 

2.Can I get a multi entry non O visa  so have to leave after 90 days and then come back in for further 90 days ). ?

Clarification please.  The single entry Non O requires insurance for the initial 90 day period?  Is that complete health insurance or just the special COVID insurance?  I thought the Non Imm O did not require any health insurance except for that special COVID policy

Ah, but if you applied for or converted over to the non-O visa while in Thailand you would not need the medical insurance coverage?

As UJ has said. Just use family ie Spouse as the reason to get your COE. I am on an extension of stay based on retirement and use the spouse option to get my COE. No 40k/400k insurance required only the $100k Covid insurance.

I have been fully vaccinated with 2 jabs AZ and I already have an existing Covid-19 Policy from Thailand, any chance (in your opinion) that this will be accepted?

It does not meet the $100,000 USD required for covid 19 insurance that is required to get a certificate of entry.

Regarding  to your query, when you are applying for Non Immigrant “O” (retirement) visa through Royal Thai Embassy, you need to submit “Health insurance policy with minimum coverage of 40,000 THB/year for outpatients and 400,000 THB/year for inpatients, and covering the entire duration of the applicant's stay in Thailand to further processing your Visa application.

 

Once your visa is being approved by the Royal Thai Embassy, you can apply for COE (Certificate of Entry) online and you need to submit Health Insurance certificate” with coverage of at least 100,000 USD including treatment for COVID-19 to further processing your COE application.
