Australia to help Thailand with COVID vaccine, as PMs discuss bilateral ties

In response to Thailand’s request, Australia has agreed to provide assistance in the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, with details to be worked out later, as leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral ties in a phone call this morning (Wednesday).

Aside from the vaccines, other issues discussed were climate change, digital transformation, the post-COVID-19 situation and “new normal” travel, according to Thai Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri.

The call, initiated by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, was an opportunity to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest at both bilateral, sub-regional and regional levels.

It would help if Australia sent some mRNA vaccines to jab Australians here.

Does make me smile on these CCSA briefings when they keep saying 'we continue to promote the spirit of international cooperation' which I guess is the face saving way of saying don't turn us away when we come round with the begging bowl.

Haven't the Ozzie's got their own vaccine rollout problems.

Should concentrate on their own citizens first before helping out incompetent governments elsewhere.

Scumbo can't supply oz"s needs he had to beg Poland for their soon to be out of date supplies, all he is good for is meaningless rubbish that he spews, and no substance to back it up, a failure in everything he has attempted as Pm.

Spot on. Urinates me off that they look after every other country before their own people.

oz needs to get its own house in order, they stopped their own people going home, yikes even china didnt do that.as for vaccs yep they have very few, shut up go home and sort your own people out. total PC nonsense,

Just the usual sweet nothings between international heads of government. Doesn't mean anything.

"Assistance in the supply of" could mean anything at all eg a phonecall from ScoMo to the DG WHO ... Doesn't have to mean supplying Oz supplies to Thailand.

Meetings, even via Zoom, are just warmup exercises to keep everyone happy. No substance. Main purpose of this call will have been encouragement to keep looking West, rather than NE.

Actually Scott Morrison rang up to see whether Thailand had any islands that Prayut could possibly lease cheaply to Australia for a few years in order to offload the newly minted Afgan Refugees. Apparently the Manus Island sandbox scheme is at capacity.

Sounds like the usual Thai phone call... talks about everything then the " ohhh can I borrow" line drops in.

Thai Gov:  We realise you already buy heaps of cars , hardrives and shoes from us, and we dont buy anything from you, but can you help us out with some vaccines ?

Aust Gov: Sure, we are on top of our vaccine situation, how many do you want ?

What a load of b*ll*cks. Australia is grabbing vaccines wherever it can including queue jumping ahead of poor countries in Covax. So how can these sheep sh*ggers help Thailand!

I personally think that all these Government " Donations " from the US, UK Swiss, and now OZ Etc are all to do with business.

Nothing to do with Humanitarian aid.

As the West is opening up slowly, they dont need Supply Chains from Countries such as Thailand putting a Spanner in the Wheel.

So, give the Thais some help to try and ensure our revival.

Seems like a plan to me.

Cha Cha keeps begging around , the man have no shame.

Bloody Nora. What is going on in this world?

I haven't got enough, but I borrowed some from someone else and you can have some of that, even though the roll out here is not going well.

Someone somewhere has got to get a grip.

Yes I'm disgusted, let your own rot and help the corrupt ones instead. Tells you everything about how politicians think. Belgium the same thing, did not want to help their own (however they flew in stuff for those at the embassy )but send 4,5 million doses to poor countries.

Looking at the numbers Australia really isn't doing too well right now, they're infection numbers are matching previous peaks as of today and it looks like it's just getting started.

The very last thing they should be doing is giving vaccines away.

Australia doesn't have enough mRNA vaccines. They're sending AZ because they have an oversupply. The originally planned to use AZ and Pfizer but Australians aren't taking up AZ so they're replacing it with Pfizer. Rather than letting the AZ go to waste, they're giving it away/selling it.

It’s a bit late, the USA has already stepped up and supplied mRNA vaccines for expats. Thank you USA for helping the citizens of other countries, while the Australian government provided a 1 day opportunity to get vaccinated - pathetic

From one stuffed up vaccine rollout PM to another

I'm so glad they discussed Global warming and climate change.

That's really relevant at this time.

Oh and enhancing strategic cooperation ! What in blazers does that mean ???

Meanwhile the few hundred Aussies stuck in chaotic Afghanistan are probably still unable to leave.

Pathetic
