Mini pigs bought as pets now become seriously weighty problems

Featured Replies

Mini pigs are cute, but large pigs, well that's a different story. Large pigs have tusks, are territorial and defecate large amounts, none of which are qualities of a cute pet.

Unfortunately for many Vietnamese people in recent times, their once cute mini pigs have grown to be 100kg plus monstrosities in less than a year, only fit for the abattoir.

Thanks to social media outlets, celebrity pet pig parents, and countless TV shows and movies, micro-pigs have exploded in popularity over the last several years.

Otherwise known as teacup or Juliana pigs, these little four-legged pets are not only roaming farms but living in homes now, too.

You've probably seen the super cute videos of tiny piglets cuddling with puppies or drinking from equally tiny bottles. But do teacup pigs stay that small forever? And do they make good pets?

While there's no denying that these tiny piggies are adorable, unfortunately, many myths and misconceptions surround so-called "teacup" pigs that can seriously hurt their health and happiness.

Adding a "teacup" pig to your family can have serious consequences—for both the pig and your family—so it's important to do all of your research before contacting a breeder.

Recently, the social networks in Vietnam were buzzing with the story of Ngo Hoai Yen, a girl living in the southern province of Binh Duong.

She believed an online salesman's assurance that the 2kg mini pig would always be cute and petite.

Hoai Yen bought the mini pig but a year later, the pig was more than 100kg in weight.

Yen wanted a cute companion, but now she's stuck with an animal that makes living in her own house inconvenient.

The girl wrote the floor was slippery and the animal eats late at night or early in the morning and "screams for food."

I can think of one way to make this pig scream once more, not to demand food, but to beg not to be made into tasty bacon.

Maybe stick to gold fish, who do not talk!!!!
