Gandtee
The colour of Thai Blood cockles put me off eating them. I like the yellow/white cockles. with malt vinegar and pepper. Can the blood be washed out of the Thai cockles I wonder? Anyone tried it?
tonray
The hemoglobin is within the flesh also...you cannot wash all of it out. I ate them a few times well cooked and hot...but never ever eat them raw or rare...because they contain hemoglobin they can be subject to blood diseases and viruses. 1 1

They're named thus because of the colour of the flesh. None the less, like most seafood eating them raw is not recommended, but they're delicious steamed or boiled.
