Muslims in Cambodia, in the Cham community, in particular, Siem Reap province, northwest of the country, constitute a model for coexistence alongside Buddhism and other religions away of discrimination or racism.

 

Muslims in Cham, who originates from Malaysia and Vietnam, constantly provide humanitarian and cash assistance to those in need, especially during the period of Covid’s lockdown.

 

The Imam of a mosque in Siem Reap stated that Cambodia enjoys the freedom to follow religions, and that coexistence between Muslims and Buddhists has been based on mutual respect for many years.

 

It is reported that Muslims in Cambodia are spread over 14 states, and their presence is concentrated in the Cham region in the southern part of the country, their number is estimated at 200 thousand people.
