Daily News reported that fire broke out on the top floor of the 33 story S-Oasis office building in Viphavadee Soi 9 in Chatuchak district of Bangkok just after 11 pm last night.

The media published dramatic pictures as sparks rained down on the streets below.

A supply of wood in the area of the fire helped fuel the blaze that spread to scaffolding. It is believed to have started due to a short circuit.

Forty firefighters had to improvise because of the lack of water in the block that is under construction but where work has ceased at present due to the pandemic.

Firefighters used the lifts to ferry fire extinguishers to the flat roof to fight the blaze and took 2 hours to bring it under control.

Only three staff - two security men and a supervisor - were at the building.

Work started on the building in September 2019 and was due to be completed next month.

Further investigations were due to take place to determine what caused the fire.
