Thailand’s opposition Pheu Thai party has been asked to reconsider its plan to invite members of the public to cast their votes, via a website, during or at the end of the opposition’s no confidence debate against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and five ministers, due to take place in parliament from August 31st to September 3rd.

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said today (Thursday) that a censure debate is a mechanism for opposition parties to keep a check on the government, but urging people to vote against the government is not, adding that, if the opposition has valid evidence of alleged wrongdoings by the government or any ministers, there are other legal channels through which they can proceed to take action.

Besides the prime minister, the opposition is to target Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, Agriculture Minister Chalermchai Sri-on, Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin and Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn.

consider it a poll like many run by the government - what's the problem, are the people not allowed an opinion

Worried that democracy might take hold?

The generals will call their parents in for a good telling off. How dare you question the peasants

  • Popular Post

Look where casting your vote here got you before time to end this charade of masquerading generals ????

  • Popular Post

its not easy to dislodge a junta

  • Popular Post

Let the people speak.. That is democracy... and of course they know already what the results will be

  • Popular Post

Well I suppose a government spokesman would say that wouldn't he ? If the government are doing such a sterling job what are they worried about ??

If were a genuinely open vote/poll the result could be interesting.

but "405 error " one possibility if it were to quickly indicate a trend .

Why does he automatically assume that the people will vote against the government? Kind of a tell.

...if the opposition has valid evidence of alleged wrongdoings by the government or any ministers, there are other legal channels through which they can proceed to take action...

Really?

Name only one channel!

show me just one "legal channel" that is not corrupt

considering the previous performance of government group designed websites,  and the anticipated response level, this poll website will crash within minutes.

so the ruling junta dont really need to be worried about what the results would show.

Let's play a game? How many failings can see you spot in Thanakorn's statement?

I wish the party well in trying to win the vote of no confidence even if they had a public vote off 1 million people the junta would not give up power democracy died a death when they got in by the back door

Still smarting from US VP leapfrogging from Vietnam to Singapore?

I think it is a rather smart strategy by Pheu Thai to have the public vote online. They stand little chance to win the vote of no confidence in the house dominated by pro government representatives. However, the public vote will have different outcome. Anything to put pressure on this government to resign will be good for the country.
