Cambodian Gov’t rejects firm’s bid to reclaim lake for satellite city

Featured Replies

The Government has rejected an application by a private company wishing to purchase 1,000 hectares of land in Kandal province to develop a satellite city. According to a directive issued by Council of Ministers secretary of state Hing Thoraxy dated August 27, the rejection comes on the heels of an objection from Prime Minister Hun Sen in a letter dated August 20.

The Win-Win-Construction Company had requested to buy 1,000 hectares of a natural lake located in Kandal province’s Lvea Em district, in Barong commune, for the development of a modern satellite city and other important infrastructures. The government directive said that the reason why the government denied the company’s request was because it needs to retain the area the company has asked to buy as a natural lake for public use.

The directive added that it needs to save this natural lake and find ways to dig deeper to save water for public use. “The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Kandal Provincial Administration must stop accepting and submitting land development proposals for this area to the Council of Ministers,” it said.

Would that be a Chinese satellite city by any chance?  That would certainly be a Win-Win situation.....

How can they possibly say no? They need more state loans from Big Cousin.....
