snoop1130
The cabinet agreed to allocate about 946.3 million baht from the Central Fund today (Tuesday), for the Thai Red Cross Society to purchase one million doses of the Moderna mRNA vaccine, for the free inoculation of certain target groups. Moderna’s representative in Thailand, Zuellig Pharma Company, has offered to sell the US-made vaccine to Thailand at US$28, or 940 baht per dose, plus 26.76 baht/dose transport fee from the US, totalling 966.75 baht per dose. A down payment, amounting to 30% of the total order value, must be remitted within this month and the first deliveries are expected early next year. The Thai Red Cross Society has been providing support to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic free of charge, such as setting up mobile kitchens to distribute food in many provinces, helping in the setting up of field hospitals, providing free vaccinations and caring for people in home isolation. Gold Star
Do the right thing and return the Moderna doses they 'reallocated' from us that paid for it.

I paid for two doses as well, and they were slated to arrive this year. The service charge for the hospital to administer the vaccine was also prepaid. HaoleBoy
Why is the Red Cross doing this instead of the Gov? Who will be getting the Moderna jabs and will it be all over the country?

Your concerns are understandable, but Moderna is expensive - they are currently charging the EU $25.50 a dose, or 841 baht. 966 baht/dose for Thailand seems fairly reasonable. https://www.ft.com/content/d415a01e-d065-44a9-bad4-f9235aa04c1a
internationalism
does it look like a backdoor option to get Moderna to army hands, as was the case with yet another 1mln moderna requested by army some 2 months ago? they know it's good and they pinched it from private hospitals, with their patients forking up already in June. Why the government did not buy in June? Because they have still believed that locally made the AZ is the only solution? The government knows well, that medics will put up resistance and scrutinise attempts to give boosters to army. Simply because medics suppose to get theirs. Still many doctors and nurses did't get their pfizer in August, they had to draw a straw who will get it. Once vax are at military hospital, it's much easier to make up lists of bogus patients, that was the case in the Bhumipol Military Hospital in August. I don't know now how the affair ended, probably any investigation was stalled, but there is suspicion, they were to be sold "on the open market". With that order it's 100 000 000 overcharge. And still, it would be coming the next year and doesn't say it would be the 2nd generation. If it was ordered in a timely manner, not as an emergency, and in proper quantities for 70mln country, price would lower. Moderna, as well as Pfizer, are hiking price up. So if contracted the last year it would be a large saving. Even if prayuth ordered it just after songkran,it would save hundreds millions, and vax would be already here Edited September 15, 2021 by internationalism

After you purchase them you still have to register with BKK Hospital for the vaccination.

smutcakes
It appears these two Government funded organizations are running a hell of a scam. Using Government (Taxpayers) money to buy vaccines and then selling them to private sector and PAO's (also Taxpayer money) Why exactly are these two organizations necessary to do this, when its just Government money same as the GPO doing it? And where are all the profits going? Are they auctioning the vaccines to the highest bidders?
