Daily News reported that Ban Phe investigative officer Lt-Col Sakol Khamyingyong alerted fire and rescue services after reports of a blaze on a boat in the Choke Krissada port - the port in Ban Phe, Rayong for trips to the holiday island of Koh Samet.

A video showed thick smoke billowing from the tourist speedboat then the aftermath as firement doused the completely burnt out vessel.

Two fire engines attended and the blaze was brought under control in 30 minutes.

Witnesses said that they saw captain Surachai Chokphakdee, 42, start the engine on the boat then reported two explosions as a fire quickly took hold.

Surachai suffered burns on many parts of his body but was able to get off his vessel in time.

He was taken to Rayong Hospital and was now out of danger though still under the care of doctors.

Daily News said he was nearly burnt alive.

Uneducated guess:- Either very unlucky or didn't pay the right people!

No bilge blower?

yeah! exactly !  Most Thai public / passenger boats have zero safety .   I don't think they have ever heard of bilge blowers fitted on a delayed engine start relay or flammable gas detectors .   Most have no clue about marine safety and as for Marine safety Inspections - a bit of a joke ( money for the boys )   .   Just waiting for the next major accident when there are passengers onboard !
