Hua Hin business leaders slam delay in reopening

The head of the reopening to foreign tourists in Hua Hin has slammed the government and the CCSA for their constant flip-flopping and delays.

Karot Rojanasathien of Hua Hin Recharge said it was a constant tug of war between parties in the government that had left the private sector looking for answers and confidence among potential foreign tourists being eroded.

"Each delay is sending out another negative message," he said.

The plan was to open the Prachuap Khiri Khan resort on October 1st but this has been put back a whole month along with Chiang Mai. Bangkok, Pattaya, and Cha-Am.

Karot wants the green light for foreigners to start coming set for October 15th.

He said that 70% double vaxxed herd immunity will be achieved in the area by 14th/15th October.

This was one of the obstacles, he told the Thai media, and with tourism businesses on their knees they want to open as soon as possible.

Fortunately domestic demand is increasing so traders have that but Karot said many foreigners want clear ideas of when they can return and no changes - there are plenty waiting to come, he claimed.

Most of what he says is spot on and needed to be said..............but

I don't think too many tourists will be coming until they relax all the pointless red tape - Phuket being a fine example were it served mostly as a slightly better ASQ, (which has now been exhausted)  it is now obvious arrivals have reduced to insignificant levels, surely someone has the brains to figure out why - here is a hint - UK Green

- Fully Vaccinated

- one PCR test 72hrs before travel

- open up entertainment **

- dump the curfew **

- dump the SHA hotel nonsense **

** if you cannot do this you are not ready to open up

Tourists will not be coming until you do all the above

I've got a feeling they're not going to be too happy with what comes towards the end of October either.

Only residents will return for the winter months. Not tourists. Tourists face too many issues getting here and then returning to their home countries with quarantine measures in place and with TH still being on the red list. Plus local restrictions on activities. There is no dramatic pull factor for any tourist.

If indeed there will be 70 % double vaxxed in Hua Hin by 14/15 th October it will still take another 2 to 3 weeks for the Immunity in those people to be maxed out

November 1st seems good to me.

But he also needs to consider that 70 % Herd Immunity is no longer of any use against Delta, and should now be above 80 %

As well they should. Any flack, resistance, disobedience and protest that can be shown to the house of clowns, is a good thing.

Where is the hope? Where is the promise of a better future? With a country that is being so badly mismanaged, and an economy that is being destroyed and sabotaged before our eyes, one can easily become despondent. How will things change, if the youth is not even allowed to show dissent? How to get rid of the dinosaurs once and for all. And unlike in the past, there is absolutely no moral leadership of any kind here anymore.

Very sad. For those of us lucky enough to have a steady income, it is sad, but we live good lives. My heart really goes out to most of the Thai people. Their lives are being crushed. Woe is Thailand.

The suicide rate here is climbing, and the clowns care not, one iota. The youth started a Facebook page on how to leave Thailand, and make a life for yourself in another country. A million members now.The people are going to have to "dispose of" these sabateur clowns, before their nation drops to 125th in the world in GDP, down towards Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia, Niger and Afghanistan.

Congratulations on making a cluster out of a cluster a skill that's been honed by uniformed masqueraders here for years ????

Beg to differ, there has been no flip flopping on the opening dates.

The head of the re-opening "possibility" has been pushed by those with interests in Hua Hin and have given spurious dates as to when that might be.

While those who actually make the decisions and give a real date are the government/CCSA.

Another case of the tail trying to wag the dog.

Can't see many from UK making the trip.

If Hua Hin is to open by October 15, then there needs to be a complete plan, protocol for accepting inbound foreign travelers. For instance, how would they transit Subvarabhumi enroute Hua Hin, or would only direct flights into Hua Hin be allowed? There isn't much time to sort out the logistics when one part of the country is open but the main arteries are closed.

And non-Thai residents also face too many issues!

At present Thailand has only one thing that could possibly attract foreign tourists to visit during the upcoming "high" season and that is nicer winter weather than they would have in their home countries.  That said, there are many other possibilities offering nice weather that have far fewer restrictions in addition to other things tourists want such as pleasant places to visit and enjoy good food and drink.

Why on earth would travelers need a vaccination to come to a country that is infested with covid?

Just open it up.

Since when did you guys ascertain government regulations were the answers? Governments can’t get anything right, so you know if you agree with them you are probably wrong or have been manipulated.

The plan: let people take care of their own health. Very very complicated.

And it is both the government and the CCSA who are showing extreme cowardice and fear. The Thais are now the real zombies. It is not the foreign tourists.

Just look at Phuket. Under 1% of the Covid cases are amongst the tourists. 99% are coming from the local population.

Scare tactics only work if the people allow themselves to become victims of the Apocalypse scenario.

Southern Europe is full of winter sun with no restrictions and not as far to travel ... etc ...

I have a good friend in the States who was planning on coming to visit us here in November but has held off on buying plane tickets until they get their "s--t" together and that he is sure he wont spend the first two weeks of his 4 week vacation locked up in a hotel in Bangkok. I don't blame him... ????

This game of "the karot and the stick" has to end now !

Hua Hin business leaders slam delay in reopening.

Of course he would ,he only thinks about himself He don't care if they open the country and an other crisis of increasing C19 stuffs up the country.

It’s only 2 weeks ago that the Bangkok post had a story that the head of Hotel association in Hua Hin stated that they didn’t want to open up on the 1st October as they were not ready and didn’t want to become another Phuket,

I don't know what the kerfuffle is about.  They cancelled the 01-Oct Hua Hin opening date a full week in advance on 24-Sept.  What kind of tourist, domestic or international, makes travel plans more than seven days in advance?  </sarcasm off>

Everything you said reflects current thinking....but you are asking Thais to think more than 1 step ahead.

You are missing the point man... you seem to think all their harebrained schemes actually serve some kind of purpose. Problem is, they don't. They're a face saving measure at best (hey we did something to protect the country) and a way to charge foreigners with extra taxes and/or force them to stay in hotels run by their buddies at worst.

Wake up dude... Thailand is right now one of the countries most affected by Covid in the world. So what did all their quarantines accomplish thus far? NOTHING AT ALL, that's what...

The virus was brought in through poorly regulated borders with other Asian countries, and anyways Thais are traveling freely within the country, so the virus is spreading already. I have friends in Bangkok who go to Hua Hin all the time, no problem. If thais or local expats, who are likely to be infected (again, country with some of the highest numbers right now), can travel freely, why would vaccinated foreigners, less likely to be spreaders have to be restricted at all?

You bought the government propaganda, my friend. The government has done nothing useful at all. Thailand is the laughing stock of the world right now. Their stupidity and greed have reached new pinnacles and it's sad to see that even some foreigners believe their BS.

I live in HH and am waiting for my wife to return from overseas. She's been there several months, and because she already did one ASQ here, she won't do it again. She'd rather stay with the kids. I remain hopeful that this train wreck will eventually come to an end hence the more constructive attitude from this farang.

So they will not be occupying hospital beds in Thailand!
