Nearly two dozen officials, some of the highest rank, have been ordered transferred pending an investigation and some face expulsion from the civil service, reported Naew Na.

It concerns the payment of bribes by prisoners to get advantages at Chonburi Central Prison.

Human rights' lawyer Atchariya Reuangrattanapong earlier took ex-prisoner Jaras Hormchit to report what was going on in the prison.

Corrections department chief Ayut Sinthaphaphan took the allegations seriously and has acted in a series of moves to get to the bottom of the scandal.

I thought that was how Thai prisons worked.

Investigate general wealth within the family circle - vehicles - property - banks - basements and all will be revealed

do it for all senior officials in the country including politicians and reveal to the world just how corrupt Thailand really is - that would be a real shocker

There's not a single area of Thai life that is not open to corruption; even the temples.

No a good choice of words for a prison story

It makes me laugh when the Thais express shock and horror that this could possibly be happening, when it is common knowledge that exactly the same thing is how things run in every prison across the country. You also have to laugh at the fact that we will never hear any more about this and no one is actually going to be in any more trouble than having to share a little bit more of the graft upwards.

It's Asia, not a first world country. I expect the right to buy my way out of trouble.

because he doesn't want to be at the center of a viral online storm.

It's hard for me to complain about "corruption", when farangs benefit greatly from the ability to get things done by ponying up a little more cash. Western countries call it "bribery", Thailand calls it "business". If that arrangement ever changes, Thailand will have nothing to attract foreigners.

I bet Joe Ferrari's in the Penthouse suite of his current residence.

Nah! As I live and breathe no one is going to convince me there's corruption in a Thai prison! What's the world coming too?

We all hate corruption, until ฿500 gets us out of a motoring charge.

The world doesn't give a rat's fart about Thailand. Thailand is only important to those that live there.

Even the back of his Bentley would be superior to the average Thai jail.....

I suspect that there may well one deceased lawyer and former prisoner, both due to motor vehicle accidents, driving through red lights or blow outs on freeways

I'm sure it is all a big misunderstanding.

true words there mate

Nearly two dozen officials, some of the highest rank, have been ordered transferred.

transferred where, to other prisons to do the same thing. That will be a cut from the brown envelopes from that prison

Oh no, inactive posts in the PMs office, move few more desks in, build new building, put shopping precinct into it. All good
