BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Public Health Ministry expects the number of new COVID-19 cases to decline to about 5,000 per day by the end of next month.

 

Permanent secretary for public health Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit said the 5,000 cases per day estimate is simply a statistical projection, while the risk of the number of new infections increasing remains due to infection clusters and the spread of new variants of the coronavirus.

 

He said the proportion of infected patients with severe symptoms is also projected to drop dramatically as the number of new cases comes down. This apparent improvement in the outbreak situation is a result of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions imposed in “dark red” zones, coupled with the ongoing national vaccination campaign and mass COVID-19 testing.

 

Dr. Kiattiphum added that the COVID-19 outbreak pattern in Thailand is similar to that of some European countries, such as Britain, which has a similar-sized population, which explains why comparable COVID-19 control approaches have been adopted to contain the virus.

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his gratitude for the cooperation provided by everyone in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus, after Thailand logged 9,489 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the first time in several weeks that the number of new infections fell below 10,000 per day.

And there was me saying that the number would be 3000 per Day o paint a Rosy picture on the opening.

i'm sure they'll find a way to make those figures happen

Maybe its almost time to stop counting cases and start counting hospitalizations.  Cases just promote public fear and keep us all in perpetual lockdowns.   With most people having received one or more vaccination the rate of hospitalization is likely going to be very low.   Im willing to bet Covid deaths are way less than burn season pollution deaths or road deaths by Nov/Dec.

I think numbers are being massaged to suit opening dates.

 

There will most likely be another wave or two.

 

 

Another Idiot talking out of his Rectum when he doesn't know any more than we do what numbers will be like by the end of October.  That is unless he is on the 'Number Engineering Team' !

For the past 7 days, average of 13 deaths per million of population. 67th in the world according to worldometer rankings. 
 

Time for perspective and to give the Thai people their jobs and livelihoods back, and kids to get back to school before they suffer even more long term mental health issues.

This guy is a genius, (sarcasm).

They are sure rolling the dice here for a full opening November 1, numbers and anything is said to save the coming high season. Maybe it can happen or possibly a disaster awaits ( a failed state ). 

another crystal ball been taken off the shelf and dusted off. A bit like Anutin saying things will be better next year.

 

Enough of the noise, get those vaccinations administered as promised, open up internally to your own population, then open to international tourism.

 

There will be spikes in cases to come that is for sure, just look at other countries when the schools have opened up. However as in other countries that needs to be managed without knee jerk reactions. So long as hospital levels are not burdened and able to cope with normal admissions for all patients then that’s the important factor in the new normal.

 

Of course a good testing regime is also a must for this to be sustainable, they need to do some serious work on that.

Well said and even more so in a country where an estimated 32000 people die from the burn season each year and another 25000 from dyspeptic driving disorders.
