Daily News called it a miracle.

But for a driver called Somchai his and his girlfriend's escape from what should have been certain death could only be because of revered monk Luang Pu Thuat.

Somchai Traiphrom, 32 and his better half were going along the expressway when he realised they were entering a traffic hotspot.

So he asked his GPS and app for a preferred route that took him to a raised section on the Bang Phli - Suksawat part of the Bangkok Expressway.

Thereafter he hit the edge of a wall and toppled over ten meters to the ground below. His consignment of lamyai (longan) spread all over the place made for an interesting Daily News photo mock-up.

Samut Prakan police could barely believe it as Somchai said matter-of-factly that he was doing the lamyai run from Chanthaburi to Korat.

He and his girlfriend were completely uninjured.

He was convinced that his Luang Pu Thuat image on the dashboard, given to him by his brother, had saved them, reported Daily News.

That and the backup Luang Pu amulet round his girlfriend's neck.

The monk was born in Siam in 1582, according to Wikipedia, and lived to the ripe old age of 100 before dying in what would later be Malaysia.

Ignore his benevolence at your peril, suggest ASEAN NOW's cultural affairs editor.

Yes i saw the video, new truck with already altered exhaust system,of course if

Somchai would have gone a little slower it would never have happened.

The amulet did not work at all!!!

If it would have worked the accident should have been prevented?

I guess i am not Thai enough.

If the monk is/was 400 years old, he was around before Charles Darwin.
Just saying... ????????????

If they are saved from 10 meters high and are safe and sound it is truly a miracle, and it seems that they are not the first to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luang_Pu_Thuat

For those who don't believe these amulets they would do well not to make stupid comments.

Respect for other religions must be when you live in another country

My Thai BIL borrowed our new truck one time and fell asleep at the wheel driving from Pattaya to Sakon Nakhon, crashing it into a power pole.  Luckily no one was injured, when our truck was taken to a nearby Mitsubishi garage then towed back to Pattaya and I noticed the wife's amulets were missing.  She said they were probably stolen by the garage or tow company as those amulets must of had strong powers to make sure no one was injured.  I said, if the powers were so strong, why didn't it prevent the accident.  Blank stare. 555.

I have no respect for any religion in this country or any other country.

Belief/non belief in amulets is personal and not in any way a stupid comment.

Before I read past the thread title I'd guessed it was likely a Luang Pu Thuat

"Stupid comments" may fall under Freedom of Speech and amulets may fall under Freedom of Expression, Religion or Fantasy.

Respect is earned and learned. It is not a "must", except in a repressive mindset.

Happy and alive

If you believe it strongly enough, it can influence your thoughts and actions.

It can also make you vulnerable to human exploitation.

All ignorant stupid criticasters inhere will mok and laugh but they will never understand the power of believe!

I am thanking you for stopping me writing something quite "snarky". He's happy, and that's all that counts.

The monk, or the man that invented the seat belt ?

This reminds me of the plane  that crashes and  all but  one of the 389  passengers  die, burnt  alive in screaming agony..........one survives............hail the lord its a miracle

Thank goodness  no engineers  designed their truck and despite their  best efforts  probably wearing no seatbelts, bald  tyres, raised  suspension, total  lack of concentration,  overloaded it  still managed to help them survive. Thats a  religion you can respect the religion of engineering
