Villagers await compensation from the effects of the Lower Se San II dam

Villagers in Cambodia have been waiting for four years for compensation from the flooding effects of the Lower Se San II dam located in Stung Treng province, Northern Cambodia / Laos border, as waters inundated and damaged large areas of the Bonorng tribe, only 53 Bonoreng families out of more than 100 families living in the flooded area have so far remained, awaiting appropriate compensation from the dam company.

The residents of the Bonoreng village demand that the local authority register 7,800 hectares of land for them, however the representative of Bonorng indigenous tribe, Phorn Rain, stated that the local authority offered to register only 900 hectares out of 7000 hectares, and this raises concern that the company is expanding its lands at their expense, demanding the company and the government to pay compensation to the affected residents.
